Role Opportunity

I'm currently working with a leading public sector technology consultancy delivering digital, data and technology projects across government.

They're looking for a Python Engineer / Data Engineer to join their growing team in Cardiff. This is a hands-on engineering role that would suit a strong Python / Backend Engineer with an interest in data engineering and cloud technologies.

You'll work on modern data platforms and services, developing Python-based solutions while gaining exposure to data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain robust Python-based applications, services and data solutions.

  • Build and support data pipelines, ETL/ELT and data transformation processes.

  • Work with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure or GCP.

  • Apply software engineering practices including Git, testing and CI/CD.

  • Support cloud infrastructure and automation using Terraform / IaC.

  • Work with databases and SQL.

  • Support data quality, cleansing and standardisation.

  • Collaborate with engineers, data specialists and client stakeholders.

  • Work within Agile, multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Skills Required:
  • Python - strong hands-on development experience

  • Cloud - AWS, Azure or GCP

  • Git - version control

  • CI/CD - understanding of modern software delivery

  • SQL - basic commercial experience

  • Data Engineering - ETL/ELT, data pipelines and transformation

  • Testing - unit, integration and data quality testing

  • IaC / Terraform - awareness or practical experience

  • SC Clearance - active clearance required to start

Desirable:
  • Docker

  • Airflow / AWS Glue

  • Pandas

  • Data Lakes / Data Warehouses

  • Public sector or consultancy experience

  • Agile delivery experience

  • Experience working alongside data science / ML teams
