The Role.

GMC are currently looking for an experienced Public Liaison Officer to join our team.

The Public Liaison Officer will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing relationships between GMC Utilities Group, the public, and other stakeholders. This position involves overseeing strategic communications, crisis management, and community engagement to ensure the smooth execution of projects and the maintenance of a positive public image.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the project team and local stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and elected representatives.

  • Facilitate clear, timely, and effective communication regarding project activities, timelines, and impacts.

  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and local authorities to address public concerns and ensure minimal disruption.

  • Organize and participate in community engagement events, public information sessions, and site visits.

  • Maintain detailed records of stakeholder interactions and assist in resolving issues or complaints efficiently.

  • Provide ongoing updates and reports to project managers and other internal teams.
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
  • Prior experience in a liaison, community engagement, or stakeholder management role\-preferably within the civil engineering or utilities sector.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to confidently engage with the public, business owners, and political representatives.

  • Ability to manage sensitive or complex issues with professionalism and diplomacy.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure or construction projects is highly desirable.

  • Full driving licence and access to transport preferred.
