Job description
Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and re\-engage with education? If so, we invite you to join our Foundation Learning team as a Project Worker – Alternative Provision at The Manchester College. Working under the guidance of teaching staff and the Project Coordinator, you will provide directed pastoral, behavioural and engagement support to learners with a range of additional needs and barriers to learning.

We have an exciting opportunity at our Wythenshawe campus to join our Foundation Learning and Student Support Department as a Project Worker (Alternative Provision) on a permanent, full\-time (35 hours per week), term\-time only basis (over 39 weeks).

What we are looking for

As a Project Worker, you will support young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who are disengaged from mainstream education or experiencing barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will bring passion, resilience and a learner\-centred approach. You will build positive and supportive relationships with young people, helping them to improve engagement, attendance and behaviour, develop confidence and independence, and make progress towards their agreed learning and personal development targets.

This is a varied role involving individual and small\-group support in classroom, vocational and enrichment activities; delivery of group tutorials using pre\-prepared materials; support with emotional regulation, positive behaviour and de\-escalation; and contribution to learner reviews, target\-setting and record keeping. You will work closely with teachers, the Project Coordinator, families and other professionals to help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics or equivalent.


• A Level 3 qualification, preferably in Education, Social Care, Mentoring, Youth Work or a related discipline.


• Experience working with young people in education, youth work, SEND or alternative provision settings.


• Experience supporting young people with additional needs, SEMH needs, behavioural/emotional needs or other barriers to learning.


• Experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners.


• Experience using positive behaviour support, behaviour management and de\-escalation strategies.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
