Accountabilities

  • Lead the regional project risk management programme across the EMEA portfolio, establishing consistent governance, standards, processes, methodologies, and escalation requirements.

  • Embed risk management throughout the project lifecycle and across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Commercial, Commissioning, and Operations Readiness.

  • Provide independent risk oversight and constructive challenge to project and functional leadership, ensuring significant risks and opportunities receive appropriate attention.

  • Promote a proactive risk culture based on early identification, clear ownership, accountability, timely escalation, and risk-informed decision-making.

  • Act as the regional subject matter expert and trusted adviser on project and portfolio risk for project, regional, and executive leadership.

  • Lead the identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, escalation, and closure of project risks and opportunities.

  • Build, maintain, and oversee project risk registers, ensuring material risks have clear owners, mitigation strategies, action plans, residual assessments, and escalation paths.

  • Assess delivery risks across design, permitting, grid connection, procurement, long-lead equipment, construction, commercial and contractual performance, commissioning, energisation, and capacity delivery.

  • Consolidate project-level risks at regional level to identify emerging, systemic, correlated, and concentration risks requiring portfolio-wide action.

  • Promote the identification and realization of opportunities relating to cost, schedule, standardisation, procurement, constructability, and overall project execution.

  • Lead qualitative and quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis, including Monte Carlo simulation, Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA), scenario analysis, and other probabilistic techniques.

  • Assess cost exposure, schedule uncertainty, critical-path risks, key milestones, and confidence in achieving committed delivery and ready-for-service dates.

  • Develop risk-based recommendations for project contingency and management reserves and support governance over their utilization and release.

  • Analyse regional risk drivers, correlations, scenarios, and sensitivities to identify potential portfolio impacts and mitigation priorities.

  • Provide risk analysis and recommendations for investment decisions, stage gates, baseline approvals, major contract awards, and other significant project decisions.

  • Produce concise project and regional reporting covering top risks and opportunities, emerging exposures, trends, mitigation effectiveness, contingency status, and matters requiring escalation.

  • Develop risk dashboards and analytics that provide visibility into exposure, trends, concentrations, and confidence across cost, schedule, commissioning, and capacity commitments.

  • Monitor mitigation progress, overdue actions, changes in exposure, realised risks, and significant issues requiring project, regional, or executive attention.

  • Conduct periodic project risk reviews and health checks to assess the quality and effectiveness of risk identification, analysis, mitigation, reporting, and governance.

  • Independently test project assumptions, forecasts, contingency requirements, mitigation strategies, and confidence levels to ensure material exposures are understood and communicated appropriately.

  • Identify recurring risks, systemic weaknesses, successful mitigation strategies, and lessons learned across projects and incorporate them into future delivery approaches.

  • Drive continuous improvement across risk processes, methodologies, tools, analytics, reporting, and organisational risk capability.
Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

  • Significant professional experience in risk management, project controls, or project delivery within complex EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, mission-critical, or major capital programmes.

  • Demonstrated experience leading project and portfolio risk management, including identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, escalation, and assurance.

  • Strong understanding of cost, schedule, contingency, and project controls principles and how they integrate with project risk management.

  • Advanced experience applying quantitative risk analysis and probabilistic techniques to assess project cost and schedule uncertainty.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Monte Carlo simulation, cost and schedule risk analysis, scenario analysis, and risk-based contingency development.

  • Strong understanding of EPC contracting, procurement, supply chain, change management, claims, and commercial risk.

  • Proven ability to influence and constructively challenge senior project and functional leaders in complex, fast-moving environments.

  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and executive communication skills, with the ability to translate complex risk information into clear business insights and recommended actions.

  • Ability to identify systemic and correlated risks across multiple projects and provide regional-level insight to support management decisions.

  • Experience delivering hyperscale, AI, mission-critical, or large-scale data centre programmes is advantageous.

  • Familiarity with power, cooling, grid connections, long-lead equipment, commissioning, and capacity delivery is a plus.

  • Experience with enterprise or project risk management platforms and their integration with scheduling, cost management, and reporting systems is beneficial.

  • Relevant professional certification such as PMI-RMP, PMP, APM PMQ or ChPP, AACE International, IRM, or an equivalent risk or project management credential is advantageous.

  • Working knowledge of recognised risk management frameworks, including ISO 31000 and PMBOK, with familiarity with standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.

  • Experience presenting portfolio risk, contingency, schedule confidence, and emerging exposures to executive leadership or governance committees.

  • Experience with @Risk, Riskonnect, Safran, or comparable industry-standard risk management tools is a plus.

  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgement, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
