Project Risk Manager
Costain M60 highways framework have a unique opportunity for a Project Risk Manager.
Costain has been appointed as Delivery Integration Partner by National Highways (NH) for delivery of the £240m improvement of the Simister Island M60/M62/M66 interchange (M60 Junction 18\), north of Manchester. As Delivery Integration Partner, Costain will overhaul the busy junction involving complex traffic management to keep tens of thousands of vehicles moving whilst construction takes place.
The works consist of:
- A new free flow ‘northern loop’ link road to take drivers directly from M60 eastbound to M60 southbound without exiting the motorway
- M66 mainline southbound widening and southbound slip road realignment to allow for construction of the northern loop
- A widened connector road from M60 northbound to M60 westbound – replacing the current single lane with two lanes
- Adding an extra lane in each direction on the M60 Junctions 17 to 18 (increasing from 4 to 5 lanes) while retaining the hard shoulders
- Upgrades to drainage, lighting, motorway technology, signage and signalling.

Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities
Facilitates and leads all aspects of the risk management process to the compliance of the risk management plan
Authors the Contract Risk Management Plan, including annual updates
Facilitates monthly risk reviews with risk owners to ensure quality of risk data is upheld • Publishes monthly risk registers.
Generates monthly reports for the key risk roles to undertake responsibilities
Upholds and reviews risk product quality against associated risk standards.
Prepare risk data and undertakes routine risk analysis
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
Ability to apply and operate core requirements of a standard project risk process, including maintenance of risk registers.
Experience of planning collaborative risk activities using a range of techniques to facilitate project / programme teams to identify, define, evaluate, respond to and report on risks to project objectives.
Awareness and experience of using qualitative and quantitative risk assessment criteria and supporting (with risk owners) the identification of controls and risk responses
Desirable
- Awareness and/or experience of supporting contract/commercial level risk management activities.
Project Risk qualification, for example APM Risk Cert 1\&2
APM PFQ
Or equivalent qualifications or experience.
Desirable
Bachelor’s degree in risk management, project management or relevant technical subject (engineering, science, maths, accounting or economics)
- Or equivalent qualifications or experience.
