Working closely with major utility providers, framework contractors, and delivery partners, we support the successful execution of high\-voltage infrastructure projects from concept through to commissioning.

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth within our clients utilities and energy portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Substations to support the delivery of National Grid and high\-voltage substation projects across the North West.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven project professional with a strong background in transmission infrastructure to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage projects through all phases of delivery, ensuring safety, quality, programme, and commercial objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of National Grid substation projects from inception through to completion.

  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design, engineering, construction, and commissioning teams.

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with National Grid standards, specifications, and project governance requirements.

  • Monitor project performance against programme, budget, quality, and safety targets.

  • Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks while maximising opportunities for improved delivery.

  • Oversee contract administration, commercial performance, and change management processes.

  • Produce and present project reports, progress updates, and forecasts to senior stakeholders.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
Skills \& Experience

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience delivering National Grid transmission or substation projects (132kV–400kV).

  • Strong understanding of National Grid specifications, procedures, and working practices, including SRs, Rules, and EPC/M\&E delivery frameworks.

  • Successful track record of managing design and build projects within the utilities or energy sector.

  • Excellent leadership capabilities with experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective client and supplier relationships.

  • Sound commercial awareness and experience managing project finances and contractual obligations.

  • Demonstrable experience in risk and opportunity management.

  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience using recognised project management systems and reporting tools.

  • Proven ability to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Qualifications
  • Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Recognised Project Management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent) preferred.

  • Additional utility, health \& safety, or National Grid\-related certifications would be advantageous.

  • Strong communicator with confident reporting and presentation skills.

  • Self\-motivated and capable of working autonomously when required.

  • Collaborative team player with a professional and positive approach.

  • Flexible and adaptable within a fast\-paced project environment.
