Scope of the Role:
ThisProject Manager role will lead the successful delivery of a major pharmaceutical piping installation project at the Sanofi facility in Geel, Belgium. The scope includes the installation of approximately 14,000 metres of hygienic stainless steel process piping and 6,000 metres of non\-hygienic utility piping, together with associated supports, insulation, testing, flushing, passivation, documentation, and turnover activities.
The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, monitoring, and control of all piping construction activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, schedule performance, and cost control. The role will involve close coordination with the client (Sanofi), EPCM (Project Management Group), design teams, subcontractors, vendors, quality personnel, and commissioning teams through to mechanical completion and handover.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
Provide support to FEED team on all Quantity Surveying functions including, but not limited to the following:
Project Leadership
- Lead all piping construction activities from mobilisation through mechanical completion and handover.
- Develop and implement project execution strategies aligned with client and EPCM requirements.
- Manage multidisciplinary site teams, subcontractors, supervisors, quality personnel and planners.
- Foster a strong safety\-first culture across all work fronts.
- Act as the primary point of contact between Sanofi, PMG, construction contractors, and stakeholders.
- Cost Management, Contract Compliance and Change Management
- Take full ownership of project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Monitor labour productivity, earned value, and installation progress against budget.
- Ensure team compliance with contract obligations and provide advice and monitoring of same.
- Review all incoming correspondence from Employers, Design Team and /or subcontractors, identify contractually critical items, and initiate replies on behalf of team.
- Review and approve subcontractor applications, valuations, and cost forecasts.
- Deliver the project within approved financial targets.
- Monitor project changes (Contract/Scope/Schedule/Specification), identify potential commercial risks, and ensure prompt reporting of same to team management. Identify and implement recovery measures where cost overruns or productivity concerns arise.
- Manage FEED project change logs, initiate, and track closure of change request/claims.
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules and installation sequences.
- Ensure piping fabrication, installation, testing, insulation, and turnover milestones are achieved.
- Coordinate work packages and resource plans to support critical path activities.
- Monitor progress against baseline schedules and implement mitigation plans where required.
- Lead weekly and monthly progress reviews with key stakeholders.
- Drive timely closure of constraints affecting construction progress.
- Oversee installation of:
+ 6,000 metres of utility and non\-hygienic piping.
+ Pipe supports and associated mechanical systems.
- Coordinate construction interfaces with civil, structural, HVAC, electrical, instrumentation, and automation contractors.
- Ensure work is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, GMP requirements, and industry standards.
- Manage workface planning and daily construction execution to maximise productivity.
- Ensure all piping installations comply with GMP, ASME BPE, project specifications, and client standards.
- Oversee implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Ensure weld mapping, traceability, material certification, and turnover documentation requirements are maintained.
- Lead quality reviews with client, EPCM, and quality teams.
- Manage punch list reduction and quality close\-out activities.
- Drive right\-first\-time installation and inspection performance.
- Develop and manage testing and validation schedules.
- Coordinate:
+ System flushing \& cleaning activities.
+ Chemical passivation of hygienic systems.
- Ensure all testing records and validation documents are completed and approved.
- Coordinate client witnessing requirements and approvals.
- Manage insulation subcontractor and installation activities.
- Ensure insulation works are integrated into construction and turnover schedules.
- Monitor quality standards and specification compliance.
- Ensure insulation activities support mechanical completion objectives.
- Develop structured turnover and handover plans.
- Lead mechanical completion walkdowns with Sanofi and PMG representatives.
- Manage systemisation and turnover boundaries.
- Ensure completion of punch list items in accordance with project priorities.
- Coordinate assembly of turnover dossiers and quality documentation.
- Achieve successful handover of systems to commissioning and qualification teams.
- Maintain effective communication with Sanofi, PMG, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Lead project meetings, progress reviews, and coordination workshops.
- Prepare executive\-level reports covering cost, schedule, quality, safety, \& risk.
- Build strong working relationships to support project delivery objectives.
- Identify and proactively manage project risks and opportunities.
- Develop mitigation and recovery plans where necessary.
- Manage construction constraints and interface risks.
- Desired Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing large\-scale mechanical or piping construction projects.
- Minimum 3 years' experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, semiconductor, or other highly regulated industries.
- Proven track record delivering complex hygienic and utility piping installations.
- Experience managing projects with piping scopes exceeding 10,000 linear metres.
- Demonstrated experience with clean utilities, process systems, WFI, clean steam, CIP, and high\-purity piping systems.
- Experience managing testing, flushing, passivation, and system turnover activities.
- Proven experience delivering projects through mechanical completion and commissioning handover.
- Strong EPCM project experience, preferably in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Experience working within GMP\-regulated environments.
