Project Manager – Installateur- und Heizungsbauermeister (Meister Craftsperson)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Installateur\- und Heizungsbauermeister (Meister Craftsperson).
The Meister Craftsperson will lead the successful delivery of large\-scale mechanical and plumbing projects. The role involves independently planning, coordinating and supervising installations and commissioning activities while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, safety standards and recognised technical regulations. The position combines hands\-on technical expertise with leadership, project management, customer liaison and commercial responsibilities. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning \& Delivery
- Assess customer requirements, provide technical advice, agree project objectives.
- Lead project planning, execution, and delivery in line with contractual requirements.
- Develop and manage project execution plans, programmes, and key milestones.
- Manage and coordinate workforce planning, resource allocation, scheduling and personnel deployment across projects, including direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring the appropriate skills and resources are available to meet project objectives. Provide leadership and support for employee training and development, while maintaining high standards of quality, health and safety, environmental protection and regulatory compliance.
- Manage and coordinate all site activities including material planning and allocation, ensuring materials are suitable for the intended application, and overseeing the efficient and compliant execution of works.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures and contractual requirements, utilising appropriate project management and information systems to monitor and support project delivery. Monitor project progress using KPIs, look\-ahead schedules, and reporting tools.
- Manage project budgets, cash flow, and cost control.
- Monitor project margins and identify risks to profitability.
- Oversee variations, change orders, and subcontractor accounts alongside the commercial team.
- Coordinate procurement schedules and manage long\-lead items with Procurement team.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and subcontractor performance.
- Verify compliance with project specifications and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, design teams, and subcontractors. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including work plans, sketches, technical drawings and project records, using computer\-aided design and documentation systems where required.
- Plan, coordinate and document technical inspections, measurements and testing, ensuring all statutory, regulatory and project\-specific testing requirements are completed and recorded accurately.
- Carry out fault finding and troubleshooting, master measures for rectifying faults and malfunctions, and assess and document the results;
- Resolve design clashes.
- Ensure compliance with German regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
- Lead and motivate site management teams and subcontractors.
- Oversee installation activities, logistics, off\-site manufacturing, and quality inspections.
- Drive programme performance through regular planning and progress meetings.
- Health, Safety \& Quality
- Establish and organise construction and installation sites, ensuring work is carried out efficiently and safely.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation and company safety standards.
- Implement QA/QC procedures and maintain high\-quality project delivery.
- Conduct risk assessments, review RAMS, and promote a strong safety culture.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients.
- Chair progress meetings and provide regular project reports.
- Manage client expectations and resolve issues professionally and proactively.
- Project Controls \& Reporting
- Maintain accurate project documentation, RFIs, technical submissions, and progress reports.
- Track project risks, constraints, programme status, and commercial performance.
- Ensure documentation is complete for project close\-out and handover.
- Plan and manage testing and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate snagging, defect resolution, and final inspections.
- Deliver successful project handover, including O\&M manuals and as\-built documentation. Accept completed works and record their acceptance, hand them over to the customer, settle the account and carry out a post\-calculation.
- Recognised Meister qualification in Installateur und Heizungsbauer.
- Proven experience managing large\-scale mechanical/plumbing projects. Experience delivering data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or large commercial projects would also be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of relevant technical standards, legislation and health and safety requirements.
- Strong understanding of project planning, budgeting, procurement, and commercial management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and produce technical drawings and documentation.
- Strong problem\-solving and fault\-finding skills.
- Good commercial and customer\-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for technical and operational decisions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency with MS Project and Microsoft Office (Primavera experience desirable).
