Project Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and delivery\-focused Project Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role is responsible for reviewing customer enquiries, developing repair proposals, planning projects, and coordinating the successful delivery of engineering repair and modification work for rail vehicles.
Working closely with internal departments and external customers, you will manage engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and technically minded engineer who enjoys problem\-solving, stakeholder engagement and working within a fast\-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the technical point of contact for assigned projects, supporting both internal teams and external customers.
- Develop project scopes, objectives, deliverables and cost estimates in collaboration with clients and stakeholders.
- Plan, manage and oversee engineering projects through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
- Produce technical documentation including repair procedures, SOPs, work instructions and route cards.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement corrective actions where required.
- Develop bespoke repair and modification packages to meet customer requirements.
- Create, review and update CAD drawings to support repair and modification activities.
- Provide technical support to workshop and off\-site teams during key stages of repair projects.
- Work collaboratively with technical departments to ensure scopes of work align with BS EN ISO 15085 standards.
- Attend customer sites to support discussions, surveys and scope development activities as required.
You will be an organised and confident engineering professional with experience managing technical projects in a fast\-paced environment. You will have strong communication skills, a practical problem\-solving approach, and the ability to build positive working relationships with both customers and colleagues.
You will also have:
- Previous experience in a Project Engineer or similar engineering role.
- Strong planning, organisational and project coordination skills.
- Experience working with technical and engineering documentation.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
- Experience within welding, fabrication and/or project engineering environments.
- Proficiency with project management software and tools such as MS Project.
- A proactive and adaptable approach with a strong focus on delivery and continuous improvement.
- Degree qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or a related engineering discipline.
- Rail industry knowledge or experience.
