Project Building Surveyor Location: Across NCG Colleges
Reporting to: Head of Capital Projects

Join NCG’s Estates and Facilities team and help shape, improve and maintain the environments in which our students and staff learn and work every day.

As Project Building Surveyor, you’ll play a key role in delivering a diverse programme of refurbishment, maintenance and improvement projects across our college estate. You’ll be involved from the earliest concept and survey stages through to design, procurement, contract management and completion.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled and motivated professional who enjoys managing projects, solving building challenges and seeing ideas become reality.

What you’ll do You’ll manage and support a range of building projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing small to medium-sized refurbishment, maintenance and space adaptation projects from inception to completion.

  • Carrying out building surveys and condition assessments, diagnosing defects and preparing technical reports and schedules of condition.

  • Preparing design specifications, tender documentation and drawings, working with architects, engineers and contractors.

  • Providing early-stage cost estimates to support budget setting and capital business cases.

  • Acting as contract administrator, managing tender processes, contractor appointments and contract performance.

  • Monitoring project costs and ensuring value for money throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Ensuring projects comply with building regulations, health and safety, fire safety, accessibility and environmental requirements.

  • Working with internal teams, including academic faculties and student services, to understand their needs and deliver effective solutions.

  • Managing relationships with consultants, contractors and regulatory bodies.

  • Supporting planned preventative maintenance and the long-term sustainability of the estate.

  • Promoting energy efficiency, sustainable materials and low-carbon solutions.

You’ll also have responsibility for one direct report, providing an opportunity to support and develop others within the wider Estates and Facilities team.

About you We’re looking for an experienced Building Surveyor with strong technical knowledge, excellent project management skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of people.

You’ll have:

  • A degree in Building Surveying, Construction or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in building surveying, ideally within a large estate or public sector environment.

  • Experience managing building projects from inception through to completion.

  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, construction legislation and health and safety standards.

  • Experience of contract administration and managing contractors and consultants.

  • Experience of early-stage cost estimating.

  • Strong knowledge of building construction, materials and maintenance practices.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other design software.

  • Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Financial awareness and experience of budgeting and cost control.

  • A genuine commitment to sustainability and energy-efficient building practices.

Professional membership of RICS, or working towards membership, is highly desirable, as is evidence of relevant CPD.
