An exciting opportunity has arisen within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for a Professional Development Practitioner to join the Perioperative Education Team within the Theatres and Anaesthesia Clinical Service Unit. This is a key role supporting the delivery of high\-quality, safe patient care through the development of a skilled, competent, and confident workforce. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a passion for education, patient safety, and staff development, who can respond dynamically to the evolving needs of perioperative services and contribute to continuous improvement across theatres, anaesthesia, and recovery.
The role will have a particular focus on supporting the development of the future workforce, including oversight of both Operating Department Practice and Nursing students, ensuring high\-quality learning experiences, effective pastoral support, and successful progression through their training. The post holder will also support education and professional development across all staff groups, helping to build workforce capability and embed a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Responsibilities of the role
- Lead perioperative education and workforce development across Theatres, Anaesthesia and PACU.
- Line manage and support the Perioperative Education Team.
- Deliver training, competency programmes and simulation\-based education.
- Support Nursing and ODP students, apprentices and newly qualified staff.
- Respond to patient safety incidents and embed learning into practice.
- Promote quality improvement, patient safety and evidence\-based care.
- Work with clinical teams to identify and meet learning and development needs.

What you will bring to the role

Qualifications \- Essential Criteria
Registered Nurse / ODP, (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas )
Recognised teaching/assessing qualification, Masters degree or post graduate level development equivalent to a masters, Evidence of continued professional development, Willing to undergo training as necessary \- Please see the attached job description for further information about this vacancy.
