Production Unit Manager
Are you a highly experienced Senior Manager inspired to join a global leader in the industrial heating technology industry?
Kanthal Silicon Carbide heating elements have been manufactured in Perth, Scotland since the 1970s, and are used in a wide range of industries, at temperatures up to 1600°C. Kanthal is the global market leader for industrial heating with 7 Production Units and a sales and marketing team serving the customers.
- Architectural, automotive and display glass
- Advanced battery materials
- Electronics such as MLCC used in mobile phones, electric vehicles.
- Renewable energy applications
- Aluminium processing and casting
- Electrification of industrial processes currently using fossil fuel heating systems.
Your Role
Overall accountability for the safe, compliant, efficient, and profitable operation of the Perth Production Unit. Leads site performance in line with Alleima values \& systems. Acts as MD/Legal Entity Rep when delegated, ensuring statutory compliance \& governance.
Leadership, Direction and Control
Provides clear leadership aligned to strategy \& business goals. Builds \& develops an effective management team while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, \& ethical behaviour. Ensures strong communication \& collaboration with employees \& representatives.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
Accountable for site HSE performance and legal compliance. Promotes a Zero Harm culture, ensuring risks are identified, managed, and mitigated. Leads incident investigation and corrective action, with authority to stop operations if safety or compliance is compromised.
Operations and Manufacturing Performance
Ensures production meets safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. Drives efficient use of resources and adherence to manufacturing standards. Leads continuous improvement in productivity, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Quality and Customer Satisfaction
Ensures products consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements. Drives right‑first‑time performance and reduces cost of poor quality. Leads resolution of major quality issues and ensures audit readiness and compliance.
Financial Management and Results
Responsible for financial performance against budgets and targets. Drives cost control, productivity, and margin improvement. Manages working capital (especially inventory and forecasting) and ensures disciplined evaluation and execution of investments.
Governance, Compliance and Legal Entity Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with legal, corporate, and internal governance requirements. Operates within delegated authorities, manages risk, and ensures timely closure of audit findings and non‑conformities. Acts as Legal Entity Representative when required.
Customer Relations
Supports customer engagement through visits, exhibitions, \& collaboration with sales teams. Contributes to resolving customer issues and supports new business \& product development opportunities.
About you
You will have a degree qualification, management diploma, or equivalent professional experience (Min 5 years’ experience in a senior manufacturing or industrial leadership role). Demonstrated people leadership \& change‑management capability along with proven financial \& commercial understanding. With a strong commitment to health, safety, \& compliance it is preferred if you have formal leadership or people management training and or experience acting as a legal entity representative or equivalent. Experience with Lean manufacturing and \& continuous improvement methodologies is also an advantage.
