My client are pioneering renewable energy and circular economy solutions based on converting waste metal into valuable by\-products through an environmentally responsible process. As we expand, we are seeking a capable and motivated Process Development Engineer to join our small but growing engineering team.

The Role:
This is an outstanding opportunity for a practically minded process engineer with experience in Chemical, Industrial, Pharmaceutical, or Utilities operations to assist with development, scaling, and implementation of cutting\-edge experimental processes. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting project delivery across multiple UK sites, but will be primarily based in Newport in Wales. Responsibilities including hands\-on plant development, H\&S compliance, and supervision of sub\-contractors and assembly vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Delivery: Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to support the planning, implementation, and optimisation of chemical process systems from pilot production to commercial production scale. Plan and assist with deployment of systems to customers on time and meeting quality standards for products.

  • Limited Supervision: Provide limited guidance and oversight to graduates, technicians, and sub\-contractors as required during project execution.

  • R\&D and Innovation: Contribute to R\&D initiatives aligned with inward investment goals and project funding opportunities with external academic and industry partners. Relay learnings from commissioning, site evaluation, and installation processes to improve the workflow.

  • Health \& Safety: Assist the Engineering Manager by contributing to compliance planning, reviews, and implementation within H\&S procedures and according to applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Travel: Attend and contribute to project meetings, installations, testing, and commissioning works across South Wales, Hertford, and other UK locations as needed. This position requires that the majority of working time will be spent at the R\&D and commercial site in Swansea Bay, Wales.

  • Practical Application: Take a leading role in hands\-on work, including fitting and supervising the installation or modification of plant equipment.

  • Documentation \& Reporting: Prepare project proposals, reports, design documentation, and technical presentations to communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes effectively.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Engineering in communications, project meetings, client engagements, and collaborative innovation initiatives.
Candidate Specification:
  • B. Sci/B. Eng or greater in Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • 4–7 years’ professional engineering experience, ideally within chemical manufacturing, process development, plant operations, or energy sectors.

  • Ability to own, execute, and report on experimental and technology transfer projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to operate flexibly and within cross\-functional teams.

  • Strong grasp of health and safety principles in industrial chemical/process engineering environments.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work flexibly across multiple UK sites (customer and Internal)

  • Practical, hands\-on approach to engineering challenges.

  • Full, clean UK driving licence.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
