Principal Research and Evaluation Officer – Impact Location: Hybrid (Home-based with regular travel to London)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Funding currently confirmed until March 2027)

Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Research and Evaluation Officer – Impact to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving responses to child sexual abuse across England and Wales.

This senior role will lead monitoring and evaluation activities, helping to generate robust evidence that informs policy, practice, and system-wide improvements. The successful candidate will work closely with research specialists, evaluation professionals, and practice improvement teams to assess impact, strengthen evidence-based approaches, and support sustainable change.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally significant work that directly improves the knowledge, confidence, and effectiveness of professionals responding to child sexual abuse.

Responsibilities • Lead the design, development, and delivery of monitoring and evaluation frameworks across multiple programmes and initiatives

  • Oversee impact measurement activities to assess the effectiveness of organisational interventions, training programmes, and practice improvement initiatives

  • Design and implement qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodologies

  • Develop systems for collecting, analysing, and reporting data to demonstrate outcomes and impact

  • Manage multiple evaluation and research projects simultaneously, ensuring effective prioritisation and timely delivery

  • Collaborate with research colleagues, practice advisers, policy specialists, and external stakeholders to support evidence-informed decision-making

  • Analyse complex datasets and interpret findings to identify trends, learning opportunities, and areas for improvement

  • Produce high-quality reports, presentations, and evidence summaries for internal and external audiences

  • Support the continuous development of monitoring and evaluation approaches that contribute to sustainable practice improvements

  • Provide expert advice on impact measurement, evaluation design, and evidence generation

  • Contribute to strategic discussions regarding programme effectiveness, policy development, and service improvement

RequirementsEssential • Significant experience designing, managing, and delivering monitoring and evaluation programmes
  • Strong expertise in evaluation methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches

  • Experience developing evaluation frameworks, theories of change, outcomes measurement systems, and impact assessment methodologies

  • Demonstrable experience analysing complex data and translating findings into practical recommendations

  • Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple concurrent projects

  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce reports and present complex findings clearly to diverse audiences

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills

  • Experience working within one or more of the following areas:

  • Child protection

  • Child sexual abuse

  • Violence against children

  • Violence against women and girls

  • Sexual violence

  • Related safeguarding fields

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams

Desirable • Experience evaluating programmes focused on safeguarding, child welfare, or public protection
  • Knowledge of policy and practice relating to child sexual abuse and wider safeguarding systems

  • Experience working with public sector, voluntary sector, academic, health, education, or criminal justice stakeholders
