Practice Manager
Job Summary:
The Practice Manager is responsible for the smooth day\-to\-day operation of the GP practice, including leadership, strategic planning, business management, HR, finance, IT, and compliance with NHS and CQC standards. The manager plays a key role in supporting the GP Partners in developing services to meet the needs of patients and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategic Management
- Work alongside GP Partners to develop and implement business strategy.
- Lead and motivate non\-clinical staff and ensure effective teamwork.
- Ensure high standards of care, customer service, and patient experience.
- Oversee the daily running of the practice, including appointments, reception, and administrative systems.
- Manage staff rotas, absence, recruitment, appraisals, and training.
- Ensure efficient processes for repeat prescriptions, referrals, and clinical correspondence.
- Maintain up\-to\-date HR records and policies.
- Handle staff recruitment, induction, training, performance management, and conflict resolution.
- Promote staff wellbeing and positive workplace culture.
- Manage practice finances including budgets, payroll, pensions, invoices, and accounts.
- Maximise income through enhanced services, QOF, and other funding streams.
- Work with accountants, the ICB, and NHS England as required.
- Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC), GDPR, Health and Safety, NHS England policies, and clinical governance frameworks.
- Maintain up\-to\-date policies and lead on audits and inspections.
- Act as the Caldicott Guardian or work closely with the Data Protection Officer.
- Oversee clinical systems (e.g., EMIS), telephony, and digital services.
- Ensure data quality and manage reporting for QOF, Enhanced Services, and other contractual obligations.
- Ensure high standards of patient service, including complaints handling and patient engagement.
- Promote and support the work of the Patient Participation Group (PPG).
- Represent the practice in meetings with the ICB, PCN, CQC, NHS England, and other stakeholders.
- Develop strong relationships within the Primary Care Network (PCN).
- Experience in GP practice leadership/management role
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Financial and HR management experience
- Knowledge of NHS systems, contracts, and compliance
- Excellent interpersonal, problem\-solving, and IT skills
- Previous GP practice management experience
- Knowledge of EMIS
- Qualification in healthcare/business management or HR
- Understanding of QOF, DES, LES, and Enhanced Services
