As a development engineer, you will research, develop, test and evaluate ideas for AIE’s new products and production systems. You will also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.

THE ROLE

The successful applicant would be expected to demonstrate competence in the following areas: –

*Engine Building*

  • Basic knowledge of fundamentals (Wankel experience not expected)

  • Appreciation of cleanliness and “5S”

  • Openness to new technologies and methodologies
*Engine Testing*
  • Experience of running engines on a Dyno

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Sensitivity to abnormalities (audible/visual)

  • Understanding of basic test objectives

  • Apply instrumentation according to test objectives

  • Detailed recording
*Test Reporting*
  • Accurate written reporting supported by pictorial and illustrated evidence

  • Correlate test data and review with respect to objectives

  • Ability to make fact\-based recommendations

  • Coherent communications with management and other key departments
*General*
  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures

  • Project a positive image of oneself and the Company to others
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will currently be building engines, installing in test cells and running the engines collecting relevant data. Responsibilities would also include instrumenting the engine and setting up the test cell prior to running a test.

  • Good R\&D / motorsport/aerospace powertrain background

  • Understanding of engine and engineering basics

  • Dyno/Test cell experience

  • Experience of ECU mapping/calibration

  • Experience building engines and ancillaries

  • Degree, OND, ONC, C\&G or equivalents advantageous

  • Engine electrical knowledge (sensory wiring and data comms)

  • PC competence including use of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Valid Passport \& Driving licence
THE PERSON

Self\-motivated with an ability to see what needs doing and do it right. Whilst you may have to work alone, you should also be able to communicate with and participate in small group environments. Attention to detail is essential whilst being able to plan ahead and keep sight of the bigger picture. You must be good at problem solving with an ability to work to fixed deadlines.

HOURS AND ENVIRONMENT

38 hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8\.30am to 5\.30pm (30 minute lunch) Friday 8\.30am to 12\.30pm.

Your work will be split between the workshop, test cells and design offices. You will use several data acquisition and engine control systems and you will also be required to use several other software packages including Solidworks.

You may also be required to travel to meet clients and suppliers.

Job Type: Full\-time

Pay: £35,489\.78\-£62,172\.87 per year
