About the project

This project focuses on the interaction between neurons and glioblastoma cells in the brain and how this crosstalk contributes to tumor growth. We use patient\-derived glioblastoma cell lines and human neurons generated from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC).
We have established a standardized and scalable in vitro model to study synaptic communication between neurons and tumor cells. This system has been validated using neuronal stimulation combined with live cell imaging and confocal microscopy to detect synaptic responses in tumor cells.
About the role
------------------
We are looking for an independent junior postdoctoral researcher who will further develop and exploit this model system.
You will:
- characterize synaptic communication between neurons and tumor cells in vitro in detail;
- develop and execute a CRISPR\-based screening approach to identify key regulators of neuron–tumor synapses;
- identify potential therapeutic targets that may slow down glioblastoma progression;
- collaborate closely with a dedicated technician and a PhD candidate;
- contribute to experimental design, data interpretation and scientific publications.
Profile

We are looking for a motivated scientist with a strong experimental and analytical background.
You bring:
- a PhD in cellular neuroscience, biophysics or a related field;
- extensive hands\-on experience with in vitro models, preferably iPSC\-based systems;
- strong expertise in live cell imaging and advanced microscopy techniques;
- experience with complex data analysis and bioinformatics approaches;
- a strong drive to build an academic research career in neuroscience.

- You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV.
- A contract for 12 months, with the intention to extend for a total of 4 years.
- Classification in salary scale 10: € 3\.598 to € 5\.669 gross for full\-time employment (depending on experience). In addition to a good basic salary, we offer 8\.3% end\-of\-year bonus. Calculate your net salary here. As of 1 July 2026, the salary will be increased by 3\.5% in accordance with the collective labor agreement (CAO UMC).
- Holiday hours: 194\.4 per year for full time and a possibility to save additional hours.
- 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs. If you travel by foot, bicycle, or car, a mileage allowance of €0\.21 per km applies (up to a maximum of 40 km one way by car).

About the workplace

You will join the department Functional Genomics (FGA), an ambitious and close\-knit team of around 60 international researchers. The department is largely composed of early\-career scientists who share a strong motivation to understand the brain and its underlying molecular mechanisms.
Research within the department ranges from fundamental cellular and molecular neuroscience to translational studies in collaboration with clinical partners. This creates a strong bridge between basic science and patient\-oriented research.
