Post Production Systems Engineer – Internal applications only
Role summary
The Post Production Systems Engineer installs, maintains, develops and researches systems across the Post Production department. The role focuses on systems and workflow technologies, including workstations, relevant software, servers and workflow automation tools, including AI\-assisted workflows. The postholder works closely with technology suppliers and partners to evaluate new solutions and discuss recommendations with management and end users. The role reports to the Technical Operations Manager and takes task\-specific direction from the Senior Engineer, as required.
Principle accountabilities
- Implements and maintains Post Production technology and systems across all Post Production business lines.
- Builds strong relationships across the post\-production community by attending relevant industry conferences, seminars and events, and provides feedback to the Technical Operations Manager and Senior Post Production Engineer.
- Gathers requirements and works with the Technical Operations Manager to deliver improvements that keep Post Production technical installations current and aligned with developments in post\-production technology.
- Ensures all critical systems have relevant and cost\-effective support contracts in place.
- Shares responsibility with other Post Production Engineers for managing the Engineering Support ticketing system. Analyses data to identify issue trends proactively and recommend preventative action.
- Ensures all sound mixing theatres and editorial suites are correctly aligned.
- Ensures all projectors are correctly aligned.
- Ensures all systems are configured in line with content security policies.
- Provides support engineering as directed by the Technical Operations Manager and Senior Engineer.
- Ensures all equipment is asset\-tagged and maintains the equipment inventory database.
Nature and Scope
The Post Production Systems Engineer provides specialist technical support across the Post Production team.
The postholder will research new technologies to improve Pinewood Post Production technical infrastructure with a focus on workstations, storage and networks.
They will work closely with the operational team to investigate and improve workflows including AI assisted workflows where appropriate.
They work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure essential systems are up to date and fit for purpose.
The postholder is also expected to respond to urgent operational technology support needs in collaboration with the Post Production Engineers.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Related subject degree
- Previous experience working with Post
- Production facility equipment
- Proven track record of implementing server/storage systems
- Mac OS and Linux system design, implementation and administration
- Strong knowledge of storage, Fibre Channel and Ethernet network design, implementation and administration
- Knowledge of scripting (Python, JavaScript, Bash, etc.) to enhance workflows and security across the Post Production team
- High level of knowledge of Avid Pro Tools
- High level of knowledge of Avid S6 mixing surfaces
- A thorough understanding of Cinema Sound reproduction formats and systems
- Strong problem\-solving skills with an analytical fault\-finding mindset
- Excellent customer service skills
- Solution\-focused with a proactive approach to problem\-solving
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Highly structured approach to planning
- Ability to commute to Pinewood and Shepperton Studios
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
Desirable criteria
- Relevant technical and software certifications
- Experience aligning projectors for DCI\-compliant picture playback
- Experience in sound system alignment across all Dolby formats
- Some knowledge of picture grading and playback methodology, including basic knowledge of Davinci Resolve
- A friendly, approachable manner when dealing with clients and staff
