About the School:

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 7 and 19 years. Our tailored approach means we can support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success’. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

Sedgemoor Manor School is very different to most schools, set in a calm idyllic site with several buildings for our small teaching groups (maximum 6 pupils) to engage and learn. We are almost at capacity with 100 places for pupils in year 3 through to sixth form. Pupils at Sedgemoor are autistic and are being supported in working towards overcoming various challenges. The staff, curriculum, site and experiences here enable them to thrive and achieve excellent accreditation. Many pupils go onto college and university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high\-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum for PHSE (up to KS4\)

  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students

  • Create a supportive, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment that facilitates active learning

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to support student learning and well\-being

  • Manage classroom behaviour in a manner that promotes self\-discipline and respect among pupils

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events

  • Engage with school policies and contribute to a positive school ethos

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records, ensuring all pupils receive personalized feedback to support their learning journey
You will be required to carry out the professional duties covered by the latest School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake duties in line with the professional standards for qualified teachers and uphold the professional code of the General Teaching Council for England.

  • Teach a class of young people, and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs.

  • Have significant experience of using recognised and appropriate teaching strategies for our students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  • Provide timely and accurate reports to all stakeholders including the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Governors (as required) and parents / carers.

  • Keep accurate up to date records of assessments of learning and progress of each student and match against aspirational and appropriate targets.

  • Maintain the positive ethos and core values of the school, both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Work cohesively with key workers and the in\-house therapeutic team to follow care plans and assist in creating educational schemes of work.

  • Provide the highest standards of professional practice and safeguarding.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching qualifications

  • Proven experience teaching above KS2

  • Strong understanding of the National Curriculum and effective teaching methodologies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies

  • Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively

  • Enthusiasm for contributing to extracurricular activities and school initiatives
