Personal Care Assistant - weekend
Job available again due to being let down.
WEEKEND SHIFT AVAILABILITY ONLY
My name is Beth, and I have a team of Personal Assistants (care assistants) to assist me in my everyday life. I live in Sonning Common, which is between Reading and Henley\-on\-Thames and I am on a bus route from Reading.
I am a very independent and active lady with a passion for watching tennis and athletics, shopping (vintage mainly but I like shopping in general) and singing. I work part\-time as a Project Manager and live with my husband, daughter (currently 12\), cat and two tortoises (well they live outside!).
I use an electric wheelchair to move around, and I drive my own adapted van from my wheelchair. I therefore do not require my PAs to drive. Due to my disability, I have limited strength in all my skeletal muscles (so that includes arms and legs) and therefore require support around the clock to assist me with my physical needs.
Because I am so independent and get out so much, I have developed my own technique for transferring in and out of my chair and getting dressed. This enables me to access the toilet out of the house. This involves my PAs supporting me on their knees. Training will be provided but a willingness to learn and a certain amount of physical strength is required.
It is difficult to give a complete job description as my PAs are generally there to provide any support I need, and it can vary day to day. However, some regular tasks include:
· Supporting me to get dressed.
· Supporting me with personal care (showering, accessing toilet, hair care).
· Preparing meals.
· Preparing drinks.
· Setting me up to work (at home or in the office).
· Laundry.
· Light cleaning (I have a cleaner fortnightly).
· Assisting me in my vehicle (adjust heating etc).
· Assisting me at choir practice.
· Assisting me to social events (dinner, drinks, cinema etc).
· Supporting me with my daughter (some food preparation, accompanying me to take her to clubs etc).
· Supporting with pet cate (feeding etc).
· Going to the shop for me to get supplies.
· Collecting medication.
There is also plenty of down\-time when I am working or chilling so an ability to entertain yourself is a must. Female applicants only due to the personal care nature of the job. Experience is not necessary as training will be provided.
