Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer with at least 3 years' payroll experience to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll services, managing client payrolls, ensuring compliance with current legislation, and providing exceptional customer service. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who is organised, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate and process employee wages accurately, including overtime, bonuses, and salary adjustments.

  • Calculate and apply PAYE tax, National Insurance deductions, and pension contributions.

  • Process statutory payments, including Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), and Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP).

  • Prepare and issue relevant payroll and tax documentation.

  • Process payroll documentation for new starters and leavers.

  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to client queries efficiently.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients.

  • Maintain accurate payroll records, financial documentation, and filing systems.

  • Ensure payroll processes comply with current legislation and company procedures.

  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the Payroll Officer role.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a payroll position.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of payroll legislation, PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments.

  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently.

  • Demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills.

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office applications and payroll software.

  • Show commitment to continuous professional development and training.

  • Be able to contribute positively to the long-term vision and success of the business.

  • Minimum 3 years' payroll processing experience.
