Part Time Financial Controller
THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Part\-Time Finance Manager or Financial Controller to own the financial engine of the business. This is a hands\-on, commercially\-minded role — not a back\-office function. You will be the finance lead, working closely with the senior leadership team to drive rigorous month\-end close, meaningful management reporting, and sharp commercial insight across a fast\-moving manufacturing and branded goods environment.
This role suits someone who has operated at FC or senior FM level in a manufacturing or FMCG business, is comfortable getting into the detail, and can translate numbers into decisions. If you want a role where finance genuinely influences the business, this is it.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the month\-end close process end\-to\-end — journals, accruals, prepayments, and full P\&L and balance sheet reconciliations, delivered on time and to a high standard
- Produce monthly management accounts with clear, concise commentary that gives leadership an accurate picture of trading performance
- Build and maintain robust cost of goods (COGS) and gross margin analysis by SKU, customer, and channel — including manufacturing cost inputs, packaging, and logistics
- Lead commercial finance support: pricing decisions, promotional investment modelling, retailer deal appraisals, and new product launches
- Own cashflow forecasting and working capital management, including close coordination with our supply chain and operations teams
- Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and HMRC; ensure VAT returns and statutory filings are accurate and timely
- Build and iterate on financial models and forecasts that support strategic planning and investor reporting
- Develop and maintain Excel\-based financial tools, reporting templates, and dashboards that scale with the business
- Identify and drive process improvements across finance operations as we grow
Essential
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
- Proven track record of month\-end close ownership in a manufacturing, food production, or FMCG environment
- Advanced Excel skills — you are comfortable building models from scratch: complex formulas, pivot tables, dynamic dashboards, and structured data management
- Strong grasp of cost accounting: standard costing, variance analysis, COGS build\-up, and margin management
- Commercially fluent — able to turn financial data into actionable insight, not just reporting
- Highly organised, accurate, and self\-sufficient — this is a lean team and you will need to manage your own workload and priorities
- Comfortable working part\-time and managing a busy close calendar within that structure
- Experience working with branded consumer goods businesses or retailers
- Familiarity with retailer\-facing P\&Ls, promotional mechanics, and trade investment accounting
- Experience with Xero or similar cloud accounting platforms
- Exposure to investor or board\-level reporting
