Overall Mission
As part of the development and continuous improvement of maintenance activities, Westinghouse Electric Belgium is looking for a Maintenance Engineering Apprentice to join the Pump \& Motor Platform Methods Department in Nivelles.
Building on a previous technical background in maintenance, you will take an active role in the optimization and structuring of maintenance processes, with a particular focus on the implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to combine maintenance engineering, project management, reliability improvement, and field operations within a demanding industrial and nuclear environment.
Apprenticeship Details
- Position: Maintenance Engineer Apprentice (Master's Degree)
- Location: Nivelles, Belgium
- Department: Pump \& Motor Methods Department
- Duration: Mid\-September 2026 to Mid\-June 2027
- Schedule: Alternating one week in the company / one week in academic training
Implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
You will lead the design, structuring, and deployment of a maintenance management system for the key equipment used in the Pump \& Motor workshop.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and prioritizing critical equipment.
- Developing comprehensive technical equipment data sheets.
- Structuring spare parts management, including references, criticality, and inventory levels.
- Defining and justifying preventive maintenance frequencies using:
+ Historical maintenance data
+ FMEA analyses
+ Reliability studies
- Developing an automated maintenance reminder system through CMMS and notification tools.
- Configuring and integrating maintenance data into the CMMS.
- Ensuring long\-term consistency, reliability, and sustainability of the maintenance system.
Technical Expertise \& Field Support
- Participate in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Provide technical support to field maintenance teams.
- Analyze equipment failures and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
- Conduct preliminary troubleshooting and first\-level interventions when possible.
- Contribute to equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
- Apply maintenance methodologies and analytical tools such as:
+ Root Cause Analysis
+ Reliability\-centered approaches
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, availability, and maintenance costs.
- Support the standardization of maintenance practices.
- Improve the quality and structure of technical data.
- Participate in the development of maintenance management tools and methods.
- Integrate safety requirements into maintenance plans.
- Participate in risk assessments and hazard analysis activities.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable safety and quality standards.
- Monitor interventions performed by external contractors.
- Capture and capitalize technical feedback, including:
+ Replaced components
+ Lessons learned
+ Best practices
- Support the Methods Department on various engineering and maintenance projects.
- Successfully deploy a structured and operational CMMS system.
- Improve reliability and availability of critical workshop equipment.
- Optimize spare parts management processes.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of maintenance practices.
- Support the collection and preservation of technical knowledge and field experience.
You will work in a mixed environment involving both:
- Workshop and field activities within a nuclear industrial facility
- Office\-based engineering and maintenance methods activities
- Maintenance teams
- Methods engineers
- Production personnel
- External service providers
- Technical experts
Profile
Education
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Maintenance Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Previous technical qualification (Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or equivalent) in:
+ Electromechanics
+ Mechanical Engineering
+ Related technical field
Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical and electromechanical knowledge.
- Hands\-on maintenance experience is essential.
- Interest or experience with CMMS systems.
- Good command of Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
- Knowledge of or interest in:
+ Reliability\-Centered Maintenance (RCM)
+ Lean methodologies
+ Root Cause Analysis
