The OTC Sales Assistant is the first point of contact for our customers and patients. The primary purpose of this role is to provide excellent customer service, deliver accurate information on over\-the\-counter medicines, skincare, and healthcare products, and support the efficient day\-to\-day running of the retail area of the pharmacy.
Must be able to work as part of a team
Alternate Saturdays, 9\-1pm with a day off during week
No Sundays or Bank Holidays
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service \& Consultation
- Greet customers warmly and provide a professional, welcoming environment.
- Advise customers on a wide range of over\-the\-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins, supplements, skincare, and cosmetics.
- Identify customer needs and safely hand over or escalate queries to the Pharmacist or Dispensary team when necessary (specifically regarding high\-risk medications or complex symptoms).
- Maintain up\-to\-date knowledge of pharmacy products, promotions, and health services.
- Operate the cash register/EPOS system accurately, handling cash and card transactions efficiently.
- Ensure the shop floor is always clean, tidy, well\-stocked, and visually appealing.
- Assist with stock management, including ordering, receiving deliveries, checking expiry dates, and rotating stock.
- Implement promotional displays and merchandising plans as directed by management.
- Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the sale of restricted OTC medicines (e.g., codeine\-containing products, pseudoephedrine).
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and data protection standards (GDPR) at all times.
- Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.
Essential:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient\-focused approach.
- Previous experience in a retail environment (cash handling, customer service, and merchandising).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
- A positive, team\-player attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Previous experience working specifically within a community pharmacy environment.
- Knowledge of specific pharmacy skincare or cosmetic brands.( or interest in learning)
