Optical Metrology Engineer (m/f/d) - Munich
Become part of an R\&D team working on innovative computer vision and optics applications for industry automation. We’re looking for an Optical Metrology Engineer with experience in optical concepts. You will be collaborating with a group of scientists to tackle the challenging design and development of next\-generation measurement instruments, metrology systems and test devices.
A top US Tech company will utilize the results in developing their QA environment, strongly impacting their products' (very high) quality \- consumer electronics devices sold in multi\-million units globally.
You'll be dealing directly with various customer stakeholders in an agile environment. The customer is looking for a strong, hands\-on, proactive, and pragmatic approach combined with strong communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute experiments to assess optical systems.
- Carry out optical measurements and analyze results to guide engineering design decisions.
- Model and simulate the optical characteristics of devices under test.
- Contribute to the development of innovative metrology solutions and clearly communicate design choices and strategies to multidisciplinary teams.
- Benchmark optical systems to provide insights for the development of new technologies.
- Work collaboratively with various teams to establish, define, and document measurement criteria and technical specifications.
- System\-level understanding of optical instruments and metrology.
- Experience with optical concepts such as lenses, microscopy, chromatic aberration, optical system modeling, spectroscopy
- Must have Programming skills in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib) \& MATLAB for data analysis
- Basic understanding of optical ray tracing SW and hands\-on experience with optical design tools (Zemax, Code V or LightTrans)
- Knowledge \& experience in image processing, color science, or optical design/simulation
- Strong English and excellent communication skills
- Master's degree with three years of experience or PhD
- PhD with focus on Optics, Physics, Opto\-mechanics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Background in instrumentation design, ideally within a university or research environment
- Experience automating optical benchtop setups
- Skilled in the calibration and validation of optical instruments
- Familiarity with camera design and related technologies
- Prior experience establishing or managing an optical laboratory
