Join our team at MAYLR: Operations Manager

Position Overview

At MAYLR we specialise in the warehousing, fulfilment and distribution of products to influencers and journalists, primarily within the beauty, cosmetics and lifestyle space.

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced, highly organised and hands\-on Operations Manager to take overall responsibility for the day\-to\-day operational performance of our UK facility.

The Operations Manager will oversee the internal movement of goods from the point they arrive with us, through warehousing and fulfilment, to their eventual dispatch. You will have responsibility across our Goods In, Warehousing, Transport, Shipping, Premises and Fulfilment functions, ensuring the operation runs efficiently, safely and to the high standards expected by both MAYLR and our clients.

Alongside the day\-to\-day management of the operation, this role will have a strong focus on continual improvement, developing people and processes, maintaining exceptional presentation standards and striving for operational excellence.

This is a full\-time position working 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with half an hour for lunch.

The Role

You will have overall operational oversight of a number of teams across our UK site, including:

  • Goods In – a team of approximately 4 responsible for receiving inbound deliveries, stock processing and the initial movement of products into the business.

  • Warehousing – a team of approximately 3 responsible for shelving products, stock organisation and maintaining the overall presentation and organisation of our warehouse.

  • Transport, Shipping \& Premises – a team of 2 responsible for the dispatch of domestic shipments through Royal Mail, international shipments through FedEx, the coordination of same\-day deliveries, vehicle movements and general premises requirements and management. This includes an office\-based employee and a Delivery Driver.

  • Fulfilment – a team of approximately 9–10 people on any given day responsible for picking, packing and preparing client orders and projects for dispatch. Day\-to\-day workflow is proactively coordinated by our Client Services Managers, who feed work into the department, while the Operations Manager will have responsibility for operational output, efficiency, standards and the continual development of fulfilment processes.
Responsibilities

As Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall accountability for the efficient internal processing and movement of goods into, around and out of the business.

  • Overseeing the Goods In, Warehousing, Transport, Shipping, Premises and Fulfilment functions.

  • Ensuring strong operational standards are maintained across all departments, with a particular focus on accuracy, organisation, efficiency and presentation.

  • Continually reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality and the flow of work through the operation.

  • Developing and implementing improved ways of working as the business continues to grow.

  • Mentoring, supporting and developing members of the operational team, helping individuals to progress and take greater ownership within their roles.

  • Ensuring MAYLR's company values are consistently demonstrated in practice across the operational departments.

  • Maintaining exceptionally high standards of warehouse and workplace presentation, ensuring operational areas remain tidy, organised and client\-ready.

  • Working closely with Client Services Managers to ensure fulfilment requirements are understood, appropriately resourced and delivered within required timescales.

  • Monitoring operational workloads and ensuring staffing levels are appropriately planned across Goods In, Warehousing, Fulfilment and Transport.

  • Identifying upcoming pressure points and proactively reallocating resources where required.

  • Providing hands\-on operational support when required and being comfortable stepping into areas of the operation during particularly busy periods.

  • Providing cover for our Transport \& Shipping Manager during days off and periods of absence, including overseeing Royal Mail and FedEx dispatches and the coordination of same\-day delivery requirements.

  • Supporting stock control, warehouse organisation and the continual improvement of stock\-handling processes.

  • Working collaboratively with senior management to develop the operational structure as the business continues to scale.

  • Helping establish measurable operational standards and ensuring these are consistently achieved.

  • Supporting health, safety and general premises standards across the facility.

  • Taking responsibility for resolving operational issues quickly and constructively, while identifying and addressing their underlying causes.
Continual Improvement \& Development

This role is about more than simply maintaining the day\-to\-day operation.

We are looking for someone who will continually question how things can be done better, more efficiently and to a higher standard, while bringing the operational team with them.

The successful candidate will play an important role in developing our operational processes, training and mentoring team members, creating greater consistency between departments and building a culture of accountability and operational excellence.

There will also be an opportunity for career development beyond our UK operation. MAYLR has recently opened a facility in the United States, and as the role develops we would like our Operations Manager to have increasing involvement in helping shape our US operation, taking learnings, processes and best practice from our established UK facility and supporting their implementation within the US business.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong operational management skills with a practical, hands\-on approach.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience managing a warehouse, fulfilment, logistics or comparable operational environment.

  • Strong people\-management skills with the ability to lead, mentor and develop a varied operational team.

  • Excellent organisational and time\-management skills.

  • A proactive approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify issues before they become problems.

  • A continual\-improvement mindset and a genuine interest in developing more efficient ways of working.

  • Strong attention to detail and exceptionally high standards of organisation and presentation.

  • The ability to manage multiple operational priorities within a fast\-moving environment.

  • Confidence making day\-to\-day operational decisions and taking ownership of their outcomes.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams, Client Services and senior management.

  • Good I.T. skills and confidence working with warehouse, inventory, courier and internal management systems.

  • A calm, personable and positive management style.

  • A willingness to be hands\-on and support the wider team when required.
Experience within warehousing, fulfilment, logistics, e\-commerce, distribution or a similar fast\-paced environment would be particularly advantageous.
