Imberhorne is a truly comprehensive school, providing an extensive academic curriculum from Years 7 to 13, alongside an enviable range of extra\-curricular activities designed to appeal to the widest interests. Students in Years 7 to 9 are educated on the site of the former East Grinstead Grammar School on Windmill Lane, which provides a nurturing environment for their first three years with us. Years 10 and 11 and our large Sixth Form are based at our Imberhorne Lane site, which has all the specialist facilities and teaching spaces needed for the wide range of examination courses we offer. The majority of staff teach across both sites. We currently have 1630 students on roll, including 270 in our Sixth Form. We are keen for our students to develop into well\-rounded young people, with the academic knowledge, character and interpersonal skills they need to take their place as active citizens in society. NJC Grade 10 (Spine Point 29 – 32\)
37 hours per week, all year round
Salary £39,862 \- £42,839 per annum
The Operations Manager: Finance and Business Systems is responsible for managing the strategy and operation of the financial and business functions of the school. The successful candidate will advise on and implement the day\-to\-day operational support that enables the school to function effectively and efficiently, allowing the wider leadership team to maintain a strong focus on teaching and learning.
What You Need to Succeed Key Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Headteacher, lead on all financial matters in school, to ensure the school’s successful financial performance and to ensure financial decisions are clearly linked to the school’s strategic goals.
- Undertaking line management responsibilities for the finance team, Catering Manager, and the Team Manager for the cleaning service.
- Applying good financial management practice, ensuring that all requirements stipulated by the Department for Education and West Sussex County Council are adhered to.
- Leading on procurement processes, including managing tenders where appropriate, conducting due diligence, benchmarking and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring value for money.
- Supporting the strategic development and continuous improvement of the school’s business systems and operational processes.
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, policies, and internal procedures.
- Working collaboratively with senior leaders to support the effective operational management of the school.
- Equivalent of GCSE A\-C in English and Maths
- A school business management qualification or a willingness to commence the qualification, on appointment, through an approved apprenticeship programme.
- Proven track record of managing substantial budgets, forecasting, and resource procurement
- Strong understanding of financial management, accounting procedures, and standard financial frameworks, ideally within an education environment
- Previous use of accountancy software, information management systems.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and other stakeholders.
- Effective interpersonal skills that can be adapted based on the audience, coupled with an ability to manage difficult conversations and potential conflict.
- Able to work autonomously, organising and prioritising work, even when under pressure, to meet deadlines and unexpected operational incidents.
