This exciting Band 5 rotational occupational therapy role includes rotations in A\&E/ AMU, Post Acute Medicine, Specialist Medicine, Surgery, Trauma and orthopaedics, HASU and Stroke Rehabilitation and Neuro Rehabilitation

The post holder will ensure the provisions are made for a high quality service for all patients that require Occupational Therapy. They will carry a caseload of complex patients using evidence based practise and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. The post holder will be required to develop links with other departments and to facilitate a multidisciplinary team approach. The post requires a flexible approach to working and requires the post holder to undertake weekend commitments as required.

Plan, organise and implement appropriate treatment programs.

Complete and record risk assessment appropriately and act upon this.

Implement treatment within local guidelines, Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and clinical governance.

Plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with clients and carers, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

Reflect on treatment provided and adapt treatment accordingly.

To advise clients and carers on specific aids, equipment and adaptations and recommend provisions.

To communicate complex information to patients who may have barriers to understanding.

To respect the individuality, values, culture and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

To make appropriate clinical observations and keep accurate records of assessments and interventions in accordance with local and national guidelines.

To compile clear assessment reports and recommendations for future care, for the multi\-disciplinary team and other external agencies.

To actively contribute and coordinate multi\-disciplinary working, including client related meetings e.g. case conference.

To work as an autonomous practitioner and display appropriate problem solving, analytical and judgement skills.

Management

To assist in developing services and standards according to the Occupational Therapy objectives.

To supervise and provide support for unqualified staff as instructed by the Senior Occupational Therapist.

To participate in the planning, evaluation and audit of practise, outcome measures, clinical pathways and protocols.

To contribute to the hospital’s clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda.

To be responsible for maintaining stock and advising on resources to carry out the job efficiently.

To be aware of the Health and Safety Act and your own responsibility to maintain a healthy and safe working environment

Education

To have access to supervision to identify own training and development needs.

To provide support and education to service users and staff regarding aspects of Occupational Therapy.

To review and reflect on own practise and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision appraisal.

To participate in the induction, training and education of students and other staff members.

To demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current research and apply this to practise.

To maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities.
