Oliver House is looking for an enthusiastic newly qualified Occupational Therapist with a passion to make a difference for children and young people with a diagnosis of Autism and associated complex needs. What you'll be doing:

Our children and young people experience sensory processing difficulties, and you will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of how this can impact upon their ability to function within their daily lives and how Occupational Therapy can support regulation to enable meaningful and fulfilling activity. You will possess a caring attitude and a desire to improve the outcomes for our young people across all areas of occupation with an educational focus.

You will become a valued team member and be motived to provide the best Occupational Therapy service to children and young people in our multi\-disciplinary team. We work closely with colleagues across educational, residential services and external colleagues in health and social care to provide a holistic child\-centred service. As a multi\-disciplinary team, we work in a variety of locations to improve the lives of young people we educate both in our school settings and in our children’s home in the surrounding area.

The role will involve completing specialist in\-depth assessments and intervention plans for young people across a range of occupational needs. This will include completing a range of observational assessments, standardised assessments, directly working with students 1:1 or groups, delivering staff training and collaboratively working with therapy assistants. You will be involved in monitoring progress, writing reports and delivering bespoke student programmes to support regulation, motor skills and development of self\-care, leisure and life skills for the future.

As an Occupational Therapist you will be working with up to 60 young people who have autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. You will be based at Oliver House School and will need to be flexible on occasions, to meet the needs of the young people, when required.

About you:

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is able to deliver child\-centred and holistic Occupational Therapy to facilitate engagement in activity. You will be offered regular clinical supervision and specialist support provided through Aspris professional networks. We are looking for a candidate who possesses excellent communication skills and can convey sensitive information to our young people, their families, and other professionals. You will possess excellent time management skills, be self\-motivated, with the ability to organiseand prioritise your work to meet deadlines within the department.

Essential

  • Are you a qualified and registered Occupational Therapist?

  • Do you have a passion for developing your knowledge of child development and sensory processing needs?

  • Are you committed to continually developing your clinical competencies and skills?
Desirable
  • Do you have placement experience of working within paediatric, learning disability or Autism services during your training?

  • Do you have other experiences of working or volunteering with children and young people with a diagnosis of Autism and complex needs?

  • Do you have an understanding or experience of working with children and young people who may present with sensory processing needs or distress behaviours?
