Job Summary

The Bedford Swan Hotel, located right on the Great Ouse river, is one of Bedford’s landmark hotels – a busy 137 bedroom hotel with thermal spa, high\-end brasserie, afternoon tea room and a thriving C\&B department. The hotel revolves around a busy reception operation and a team that takes great pride in putting the guest first.

We are looking for a Night Porter who is reliable, professional, and enjoys working in a guest\-facing hospitality environment. This is a hands\-on role supporting the hotel operation overnight, ensuring guests receive excellent service while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and operational standards throughout the night.

This position is ideal for someone with previous hotel or customer service experience who enjoys working independently and as part of a team. Flexibility and a positive attitude are essential.

What you will be doing:

You will support the overnight operation of the hotel, assisting guests with check\-ins, enquiries, luggage assistance, and general guest requests during the night shift. You will work closely with the Night Manager and wider hotel team to ensure the smooth running of the hotel overnight.

You will carry out regular security and safety checks across the property, assist with setting up conference and event spaces where required, support housekeeping and maintenance requests, and help maintain cleanliness and presentation standards throughout public areas.

You will also assist with preparing the hotel for the following day’s operation, ensuring all overnight duties are completed efficiently and professionally.

What you will bring to the team:

You will have previous experience within hospitality, customer service, or a similar guest\-facing role. You will be reliable, organised, and confident working during overnight shifts.

You will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for guest service. The ability to remain calm under pressure, work independently, and support colleagues when needed is essential.
