Mission Systems Technician

Accountabilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and sustain airborne ISR mission systems, including EO/IR sensors, tactical radios, mission computers, radar, data links, video networks, moving-map software, and SIGINT equipment.

  • Conduct pre-mission system checks, field-level troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and system validation to maintain mission readiness.

  • Perform Windows and Linux system administration, including scripting, log analysis, patch management, and user account administration.

  • Operate RF and electronic test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and RF power meters, to isolate faults and validate system performance.

  • Configure and troubleshoot TCP/IP-based mission networks, including static routing, subnetting, VLAN tagging, and secure transport links.

  • Diagnose faults across RF, power, and IP-based interfaces using technical schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, and system documentation.

  • Perform software loads, firmware updates, and configuration changes in accordance with approved program baselines and security requirements.

  • Support the integration, testing, and validation of new hardware and software packages in collaboration with engineering and sustainment teams.

  • Provide detailed technical feedback, field reports, and troubleshooting information to support root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to lifecycle sustainment planning by identifying recurring issues, system limitations, and opportunities for improved reliability.

  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate technical capabilities, limitations, support requirements, and improvement opportunities clearly.

  • Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining a high standard of technical accuracy, safety, and mission readiness.

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 6 years of relevant professional experience; alternatively, an Associate’s degree combined with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting airborne ISR mission systems in deployed, operational, or field environments.

  • Strong knowledge of radar fundamentals and operating modes, such as GMTI, MMTI, SAR, and weather radar.

  • Hands-on proficiency with RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, RF power meters, and network analyzers.

  • Strong understanding of RF signal paths, IP-based system interfaces, and TCP/IP networking and routing concepts.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, and system documentation.

  • Experience implementing system configuration changes and troubleshooting complex hardware and software interfaces.

  • Strong English-language communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to perform assigned duties independently with little or no assistance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to isolate faults systematically and make sound technical decisions in operational environments.

  • A Master’s degree or 12+ years of relevant experience is advantageous.

  • A Bachelor’s degree plus 8+ years of related experience is advantageous.

  • DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 certification or equivalent credentials, such as CompTIA Security+ or Cisco CCNA, are beneficial.

  • 6+ years of experience supporting airborne ISR systems in deployed or field environments is preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to meet applicable plant, aviation, security, and operational access requirements.

  • Ability to travel internationally up to 50% as required.
