Membership Development Officer

Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce – Prestwick KA9 2RZ

Purpose of the Role:
To grow and retain Chamber membership by building strong relationships, generating new business opportunities, and delivering an excellent member experience that supports commercial income and long\-term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Membership Growth and Commercial Development

· Deliver annual membership targets, including new member acquisition, renewals, upgrades, and revenue growth.

· Proactively identify, engage, and convert prospective members through networking, referrals, market research, outreach activity, and meetings.

· Manage a defined portfolio of members, ensuring regular contact, strong relationship management, and timely renewals.

· Identify and convert opportunities for membership upgrades, sponsorship, and additional Chamber services.

· Use available data and insight to prioritise prospects, pipeline activity, and member development opportunities.

2\. Member Engagement and Experience

· Deliver a high\-quality experience for members and prospective members, ensuring all interactions are professional, responsive, and value\-driven.

· Act as a key point of contact for members, gathering feedback, identifying needs, and supporting long\-term engagement.

· Promote Chamber events, programmes, and services to maximise participation, visibility, and member value.

· Support member retention by understanding business needs and demonstrating the value of Chamber membership.

3\. Strategic Programmes and Partnerships

· Support the development, growth, and delivery of the Chamber’s Platinum Partners programme and other strategic commercial initiatives.

· Contribute to the development and delivery of sponsorship opportunities, and income\-generating activity.

4\. Collaboration and Reporting

· Work closely with colleagues across the Chamber, particularly Marketing and Events, to support campaigns, communications, and member engagement activity.

· Maintain accurate records of pipeline activity, member engagement, and commercial opportunities within CRM and reporting systems.

· Provide regular progress updates, performance reporting, and insight to support planning and decision\-making.

· Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes to support an efficient and professional member service.

5\. Representation

· Represent the Chamber professionally at events, meetings, and stakeholder forums, acting as an ambassador for the organisation and its members.

Success Measures
Success in this role will typically be measured through a combination of new member growth, retention performance, membership revenue, upgrades, sponsorship or partnership income generated, member engagement, and the quality and accuracy of CRM and pipeline management.

Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

Essential

· Proven experience in business development, sales, account management, or a similar commercially focused role.

· Strong relationship\-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.

· Commercial awareness and confidence in working to targets, KPIs, and measurable outcomes.

· Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities, maintain momentum, and follow up effectively.

· Ability to work independently, use initiative, and take a proactive approach to opportunity development.

· Strong team ethic with a flexible, professional, and solutions\-focused approach.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

· A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required due to the travel involved in this role.

Desirable

· Experience working within a membership organisation, business support environment, or subscription\-based service.

· Understanding of the regional business community and wider stakeholder landscape.

· Experience supporting high\-value partnership or sponsorship programmes.
