Not for Profit People are representing a highly successful corporate membership organisation that counts many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies and consultancies amongst its members.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Membership & Engagement Director to play a pivotal role in developing, engaging, growing and retaining the organisation’s membership base.

This is a new role offering an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about building strong relationships, understanding member needs and creating an engaged and connected membership community.

The role

Working closely with colleagues and reporting to the General Manager, you will take the lead on membership engagement and development, ensuring members receive a high-quality experience and feel well supported and connected.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and managing an effective onboarding process for new members, ensuring they feel welcomed and informed.

  • Building strong relationships with existing members, understanding their needs, gathering feedback and supporting high levels of satisfaction.

  • Planning and delivering effective member communications, including newsletters, updates and personalised communications.

  • Managing and developing the organisation's Future Leaders group for early-career members, including developing a package of support, services and engagement opportunities.

  • Developing and managing the MR Awards, ensuring they attract strong applications, achieve a high profile and appropriately celebrate members' achievements.

  • Undertaking member outreach and supporting membership development.

  • Working with specific committees to ensure membership deliverables are achieved.

  • Contributing to a cohesive approach to membership development and community building.

About you

You will be a confident relationship builder with excellent communication and organisational skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.

Ideally, you will have at least five years' experience in a membership role. However, applications are also welcomed from candidates without direct membership experience where they can demonstrate strong transferable skills from related roles.

You will have:

  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to work autonomously, at pace and keep tasks moving forward.

  • A proactive and hands-on approach.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Strong written English.

  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.

  • Experience of working effectively within a smaller staffed organisation.

  • Experience of successfully running working groups and committees.

  • A strong work ethic and a reliable, dependable approach.

  • The ability to work at speed while maintaining quality.

  • A collaborative and considerate approach to working as part of a small team.

Contract and working arrangements

This is a self-employed, freelance/contract position. All candidates must be registered as self-employed and able to undertake the work on a self-employed basis.

The role is remote and will initially be approximately 10 hours per week, building to around 14–18 hours per week, spread over four days.

The work is undertaken across approximately 40–45 weeks of the year, with the busiest period generally between January and July and September to November. There may be periods when additional hours are required, which can be balanced against quieter periods.

The role must be undertaken during normal UK business hours.

The successful contractor will need to have their own up-to-date PC and software, with access to fast and reliable internet suitable for Teams and Zoom calls. A PC is preferred rather than a Mac.
