Medical Receptionist/Administrator
Moss Healthcare is a busy, patient\-focused GP practice committed to delivering high\-quality healthcare services to our local community. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist/Administrator to join our friendly team.
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines reception, administration, patient support, and medical records management. You will be at the heart of the practice, helping ensure patients receive excellent service whilst supporting our clinical team to deliver safe and effective care.
As a Medical Receptionist/Administrator you will play a key role in the smooth day\-to\-day running of the practice. You will often be the first point of contact for patients, providing a professional, compassionate, and efficient service both in person and over the telephone.
The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast\-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Reception \& Patient Services
- Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Manage patient appointments and booking requests.
- Handle enquiries via telephone, face\-to\-face, email, and digital channels.
- Support patients in accessing appropriate services through care navigation and Accurx.
- Ensure the reception area is tidy, safe, and welcoming.
- Process incoming and outgoing post and correspondence.
- Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records.
- Summarise new patient medical records and code relevant clinical information.
- Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures.
- Monitor shared inboxes and ensure actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Carry out scanning, filing, data entry, and document management tasks.
- Support the management of incoming and outgoing medical records.
- Ensure coded data is accurate, complete, and recorded to support patient care and Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) requirements.
- Allocate clinical workflow and direct tasks to appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Allocate pathology and other clinical results to clinicians as required.
- Process new patient registrations and proxy access requests.
- Support clinical staff through accurate data entry and clinical coding activities.
- Assist the practice in achieving quality targets, including the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).
- Work collaboratively across all areas of the practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time\-management abilities.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good IT skills and confidence using computer systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a GP practice, NHS, healthcare, or customer service setting.
- Experience of medical coding and summarising patient records.
- Knowledge of clinical systems such as SystmOne.
- Understanding of medical terminology and NHS services.
- Experience supporting QOF and other quality improvement initiatives.
