This post is for 20 hours per week Undergraduate Medical Education.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated doctor with a strong interest in medical education to join the Christie Institute of Cancer Education as an Education Fellow. The role is entirely education‑focused and offers protected time to develop skills in teaching, curriculum delivery and educational governance, with no clinical service commitment.

The postholder will play a key role in delivering high‑quality undergraduate medical education, particularly supporting Years 3 and 5 medical students during their placements. Working closely with the Medical Education team, clinical colleagues and university partners, the Education Fellow will contribute to teaching delivery, student support, assessment and placement organisation.

This role would suit an individual who is enthusiastic about teaching, organised, approachable and keen to develop a portfolio in medical education. The Trust provides strong educational supervision, mentorship and support to complete a postgraduate qualification in Medical or Healthcare Education.

The Education Fellow will deliver and support high‑quality undergraduate medical education within the Trust, with a focus on Years 3 and 5 medical students. Duties include planning and delivering small‑group teaching, case‑based discussions, clinical skills and examination teaching, and seminar‑based sessions across clinical and education settings.

The postholder will work closely with clinical teams, university partners and the Medical Education team to support effective timetabling, placement organisation and curriculum delivery. They will provide supervision, guidance and feedback to students, contribute to assessment processes, and support learners with identified educational needs.

The Education Fellow will assist in developing teaching materials and educational resources, including online and blended learning. They will be encouraged to participate in educational audit, quality improvement and research activities, contributing to ongoing enhancement of undergraduate medical education. This is a fully education‑focused role with no clinical service commitment.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high quality consultant led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision making and continuity of care for patients.

There is an excellent medical library with good information technology facilities on site.

JOF’s will be able to apply for leave and funding for approved courses of study (including attendance at examinations).

These posts are ideal for applicants who have completed two years general professional training, with an interest in pursuing a career in education, oncology or a related field.

There will be the opportunity to be funded on a PG Cert in Education with University of Manchester or University of Greater Manchester

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide senior input and will work as part of the Medical Education Team, contributing to undergraduate medical education across Trust sites as required.

Teaching:

  • Deliver small\-group teaching, seminars, case\-based discussions, clinical skills and examination teaching

  • Provide supplementary teaching for Years 3 and 5 medical students

  • Assist with teaching of other undergraduate year groups as required
Administration:
  • Support placement organisation, timetabling and student allocation

  • Liaise with clinical teams, university partners and education administrators

  • Contribute to development of teaching materials and online resources
Assessment and Student Support:
  • Provide supervision, feedback and pastoral support to students

  • Contribute to assessment and evaluation processes

  • Support learners with identified educational needs
Governance, Audit and Research:
  • Participate in educational audit, evaluation and quality improvement

  • Support innovation in undergraduate education delivery
Continuing Professional Development

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Role Planning

There are no on\-call or out\-of\-hours clinical commitments. A detailed timetable will be agreed locally.

Weekend working will consist of clinical activities that are scheduled in advance and reviewed where required as work schedules are reviewed, taking account of service needs.

On call Commitments

This role does not require participation in the on\-call rota.
