Medical Administrator
About the Role
We are looking for an organised and proactive Medical Administrator to join our busy GP practice team. This important role will support the delivery of high\-quality patient care by processing referrals, coding clinical information, and managing correspondence received from hospitals and other healthcare providers.
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong administrative skills, and the ability to work accurately in a fast\-paced environment. You will also attend meetings and be responsible for taking the minutes. Being proactive and having an eye for detail is a must in this role.
This is a very busy, demanding and varied role in a GP practice based in Mile Oak, Portslade with over 8,900 registered patients.
The position is for 15\-25 hours per week, hours include 2 afternoon shifts (finishing at 5pm).
Main Duties
- Processing and sending patient referrals to secondary and community care services.
- Reviewing and coding clinical letters received from hospitals and healthcare providers.
- Updating and maintaining accurate patient records.
- Managing incoming clinical correspondence and ensuring it is directed appropriately.
- Liaising with clinicians regarding referral and coding queries.
- Monitoring referral pathways and following up where required.
- Supporting practice workflows to ensure correspondence is processed within agreed timescales.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with data protection requirements.
- Providing general administrative support to the practice team as required.
Essential:
- Previous administrative experience.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
- Previous experience working in a GP practice, NHS, or healthcare setting.
- Experience of clinical coding.
- Knowledge of SystmOne or other clinical systems.
- Understanding of NHS referral processes.
