Brodie Engineering Ltd is a leading rolling stock engineering business offering a comprehensive range of refurbishment, maintenance, overhaul, engineering support, project management, and repair service to the UK rail and light rail sector. Operating from two depots in Kilmarnock, Scotland we also provide a mobile service to the rail industry over the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland.
Key clients include ScotRail, Northern Rail and Caledonia Sleeper.
We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team by recruiting a Mechanical/Welding Engineer to work on rail projects from initial brief, through the design and development stage, testing, and fault finding for each project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Working within industry standards to specify repair procedures for rolling stock overhaul and maintenance programs.
- Assisting production and the welding team with repair procedures for corrosion and crash damage.
- Working with suppliers to source replacement components due to damage.
- Creating documentation for repairs of welded structures.
- Design of new or upgraded structures, updating drawings and installations, and associated documentation.
- Development and use of Bills of Material to record material requirements for each project and work with procurement to place orders.
- Working as Assistant Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) to the current RWC within the business.
- Day to day involvement in delivering the project requirements in terms of interpretation of drawing and engineering specifications, material ordering and progressing quality control, whilst working closely with the projects team.
- Drafting and / or signing off project documentation relating to work completed and working within production to ensure critical tasks are completed by properly assessed and competent staff.
- Assist the Engineering and Project management team in developing a standard set of welding and engineering principles. Engage with key stakeholders to ensure these principles are accepted and implemented and work to improve existing documentation to meet a consistently high standard.
- Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are in place and observed.
- Promote Brodie Engineering's behavioural expectations by enhancing and supporting working relationships within the business, customers and external agencies.
- Experienced mechanical/welding engineer in a fast\-paced environment.
- Relevant mechanical qualification and experience gained in the rail or other high hazard industry is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge of welded structures, welding principles and standards.
- Knowledge of BS EN ISO 3834, BS EN ISO 14731 and BS EN 15085 would be helpful but not essential.
- High level of understanding engineering drawings and writing technical documents / work instructions from them.
- Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD packages, preferably CREO would be helpful
- Good communication skills; able to brief staff and customers on progress and next steps.
- Problem solving skills, identifying solutions to issues arising or facilitate with the appropriate person.
- Project management process understanding, commercial and financial awareness, able to understand project costs and identify efficiencies is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of Microsoft suite, including MS Project and Power Point
- Able to manage conflicting priorities and communicate across teams effectively.
