Mechanical Design Engineer
Are you an innovative mechanical design professional with a passion for bringing complex machinery from concept to reality?
We are partnering with a leading manufacturer to find a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer who deliver specialist engineering expertise for automated systems, bespoke machinery, and advanced packaging machinery.
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the entire project lifecycle, utilising SolidWorks to provide high-quality, cost-effective mechanical design solutions from initial concept to final commissioning.
Key Responsibilities • SolidWorks CAD Modelling: Design detailed components, mechanisms, and complex assemblies in SolidWorks, ensuring precise tolerancing and manufacturing notes.
- Full Lifecycle Mechanical Design: Take accountability for mechanical design projects, from creating design specifications down to final machine commissioning.
- Specification & Documentation: Assist with writing User Requirement Specifications, manage Bill of Materials (BOMs), and produce essential technical file documentation.
- Prototyping & Testing: Research uncertain processes and validate your mechanical design concepts by building and testing prototypes.
- Project Coordination: Oversee the procurement of specialist components, assist in managing sub-contract manufacturing, and coordinate machine commissioning.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all mechanical design work complies with relevant industry regulations, including EC Directives and health and safety requirements.
- Software Expertise: Strong, competent knowledge and professional workplace experience utilising the SolidWorks CAD package.
- Industry Experience: Proven experience in the mechanical design of packaging machinery, automation equipment, jigs, or fixtures.
- Sector Knowledge: Experience working with medical devices or medical packaging is a distinct advantage.
- Technical Insights: A practical understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing methods, and workshop machinery.
- Core Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, a strong eye for detail, and the organisational skills needed to meet tight project deadlines.
- Location: 5 days on site in Derby
- Holiday: 25 days per year + bank holidays
- Hours: 38 hour working week with flexible start times and early finish on Friday
- Pension: 5% employee, 4% employer contribution
- Death in Service: 2 x Salary
