The Opportunity

Hays are representing a well established M&E Building Services Contractor to recruit an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing design team.This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2-5 years' experience looking to gain broader project exposure, develop technically, and progress into a senior or lead engineering position.

The Role

You'll support the delivery of mechanical building services design across a range of commercial projects, working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams. This role offers a strong blend of technical design, coordination, and project exposure, making it ideal for someone wanting to develop into a well-rounded engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating mechanical design activities across multiple projects


• Track design progress and manage key deliverables


• HVAC design and calculations


• Support production of mechanical layouts, schematics, and technical documentation


• Carry out design reviews and quality checks


• Maintain accurate design records and documentation


• Attend design meetings and follow up on actions


• Ensure clear communication across project teams

• Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)


• 2-5 years' experience in mechanical / building services design


• Understanding of HVAC, heating & cooling, and drainage systems


• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools (desirable)


• Strong organisational and communication skills

• Competitive salary up to £45,000 (depending on experience)
