Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be working with a well-established engineering business to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Leeds.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically focused design engineer to work on the design and development of cranes and materials handling equipment, supporting projects from initial design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for producing detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing information, ensuring that solutions meet customer requirements as well as the required standards for safety, quality, cost and manufacturability.
The Role Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing design layouts and detailed manufacturing drawings for cranes and materials handling applications.
- Designing mechanical systems and components for new-build, refurbishment and aftermarket projects.
- Producing engineering calculations in accordance with recognised standards.
- Preparing purchase specifications and liaising with suppliers.
- Reviewing and checking both in-house and outsourced detailed drawing work.
- Working within the company's established design review processes.
- Ensuring projects are delivered to customer requirements and agreed cost, quality and programme targets.
- Working closely with production, procurement, installation and commissioning teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting technical aspects of projects and helping to resolve engineering issues as they arise.
- Attending customer sites when required.
- Participating in relevant training and development activities.
You will ideally have:
- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering as a minimum.
- Experience using AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Experience producing manufacturing and detailed engineering drawings.
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design practices.
- Practical experience within a medium/heavy engineering environment.
- The ability to interpret customer requirements and develop practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- The ability to work effectively with manufacturing, procurement and project teams.
