Marketing and Operations Assistant

Heidelberg / EU

Introduction

Calysta is a biotech-company, headquartered in California, developing proteins via gas-fermentation of natural bacteria. This novel process creates protein in a sustainable way: without usage of arable land, hardly any water needed and is complete animal-free. As the world’s demand for healthy and sustainably produced food continues to grow, Calysta’s technology can be used additional to current plant- and meat-based production methods to provide a sustainable non-GMO protein for the feed, pet, and possibly human food markets.

Calysta started its 1st production plant in Chongqing, China, with a capacity of 20.000 Mt of protein annually. Business commenced in the 2nd half of 2024, when the Chinese operation received all production- and export licenses. Calysta currently focusses on sales in aquafeed and petfood, servicing markets both locally in China, as well pursuing global opportunities.

Calysta Germany has been founded in 2023, as the hub for all commercial actions. First imports of FeedKind started in 2024, now already multiple petfood brands have included FeedKind in product formulations.

Currently Calysta is shifting focus, changing the orientation from investor-driven to become market driven. In this, Calysta Germany seeks a Marketing and Operations Assistent

\*\*Responsibilities:\*\* 

*Marketing function:*

  • Develop and execute marketing and communication plan 

  • Transfer the value proposition of FeedKind into adequate narratives for different markets, creating emotional positive connection with target groups.

  • Focus on B-to-B communications, including tools like LinkedIn, Exhibitions, Mailings, Website
*Operations function:*
  • Manage logistics and ordering processes, both Calysta internally (inbound goods), as externally (outbound goods).

  • Support forecast and planning models for production, sales and inventory management.

  • Interface with 3rd party service providers on warehousing, material handling, packaging, and quality management

  • Manage customer master data. 

  • Manage documentation / back-office management for commercial process together with administration and QA-departments, ensuring accurate document flow for order handling, invoicing and traceability purposes.

  • Sample shipment management 

  • Sales support function.

Requirements:
  • Experience / competence in marketing

  • Experience or willingness to develop skills in supply chain management.

  • Team player with the ability to work under own initiative.

  • High level of accuracy, process-orientation, well-structured working methods

  • Aptitude for cross-functional collaboration with production, Q&A, sales and customers

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Competency in reporting and presenting both internally and externally.

  • International orientation, English as company language, other languages a benefit

  • Common sense and pragmatic attitude, be flexible with ‘can-do’ mentality needed, to work in start-up/scale-up environment
Reporting line:
  • Part of Commercial organization, in development, reporting to VP Commercial Development

  • EU Based – part of Calysta Germany GmbH legal entity.
Stakeholders:
  • Customers

  • 3rd party service providers as forwarders and external warehouse

  • Administration manager Calysta

  • Marketing agencies, research organisations
