About the role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission \& Distribution is at the forefront of delivering the infrastructure needed to support the UK's transition to Net Zero.

As investment in Scotland's transmission network continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team and play a key role in delivering major transmission, substation, and renewable energy projects across the region.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead commercial activities on complex infrastructure schemes, working alongside industry\-leading professionals on projects that will strengthen Scotland's energy network and support the UK's energy future.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the commercial management of major transmission and substation projects.

  • Managing project costs, budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.

  • Producing and reviewing CVRs, cash flow forecasts, and project performance reports.

  • Identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities.

  • Supporting contract negotiations and commercial strategies.

  • Procuring and managing subcontractors and supply chain partners.

  • Administering NEC contracts and ensuring contractual compliance.

  • Managing change control, compensation events, and commercial recovery opportunities.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, project teams, and key stakeholders.

  • Supporting value engineering initiatives and driving commercial efficiencies.

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.

  • Ensuring robust commercial governance and compliance with Balfour Beatty processes.
Who we're looking for

We are keen to hear from commercially focused professionals who have experience delivering large\-scale infrastructure, utilities, power, energy, civil engineering, or construction projects.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience operating as a Managing Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or Commercial Manager on major projects.

  • Strong knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract.

  • Proven experience managing project costs and commercial performance.

  • Experience leading commercial teams and developing talent.

  • Strong understanding of subcontract procurement and supply chain management.

  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.

  • Experience managing risk, opportunity, change control, and financial reporting.

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
Membership of, or working towards, RICS, ICES, CIOB, or a similar professional body
