G12: £55,562 to £59,490 per annum.

Our team are instrumental in the successful delivery of highways and transport services in Walsall. We are looking to recruit a forward thinking and ambitious Major Projects \& Minor Improvements (MPMI) Manager who can take a leading role at a local and regional level.

The successful applicant will lead and direct the Major Projects, Minor Improvements, Structures and Geotechnics (MPMI) team within Highways \& Transport, reporting to the Group Manager – Transportation \& Strategy and collaborating with regional colleagues e.g. the council’s term maintenance contractor, Black Country Transport and Transport for West Midlands.

The post holder will take day\-to\-day responsibility for the successful development, delivery and management of: \-

  • Highway engineering

  • Structures (highway)

  • General and principal bridge inspections

  • Geotechnical engineering

  • Preliminary and detail design

  • Delivery of capitally funded infrastructure schemes

  • Contract document preparation and procurement

  • Contract application and administration

  • Management and supervision of contractors and ECI workstreams

  • Management and supervision of private development work subject to highway adoption agreements

  • Oversight of the council’s role as the Lead Local Flood Authority
This is a varied role with innovation and partnership working at its heart. We are looking for someone who has a strong civil engineering/structures/geotechnical background and the ability to both lead and work effectively with peers as part of a delivery\-focused team.
