Maintenance Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Maintenance Engineer/Plumber to join our innovative team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance works across Tower Hamlets and surrounding areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out routine, reactive and general maintenance works across residential properties.
- Complete plumbing repairs, maintenance and fault finding.
- Diagnose and repair issues with taps, toilets, pipes, valves, fittings and associated plumbing systems.
- Investigate faults efficiently and identify practical solutions to minimise disruption.
- Carry out general reactive maintenance and attend jobs within agreed timescales.
- Complete basic carpentry, building maintenance and other minor remedial works where required.
- Carry out maintenance inspections and identify potential issues before they develop into larger problems.
- Use appropriate tools, equipment, technical information and diagnostic methods to identify faults and complete repairs.
- Read and interpret relevant technical information, drawings, schematics or instructions where required.
- Carry out repairs and adjustments safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with appropriate health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and professional working environment.
- Complete job sheets accurately, recording works carried out, materials used, faults identified and any further action required.
- Communicate professionally with tenants, residents, clients, colleagues and contractors.
- Work independently while also supporting the wider maintenance team when required.
- Take responsibility for managing multiple jobs and priorities while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
We are looking for someone with proven experience in plumbing, maintenance engineering and/or residential property maintenance.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Experienced in plumbing and general property maintenance.
- Confident carrying out fault finding, diagnostics and practical repairs.
- Experienced with plumbing systems, heating and hot water repairs.
- Comfortable working independently and managing jobs from start to finish.
- Customer\-focused, with excellent communication skills.
- Able to communicate clearly with tenants, residents, clients and colleagues.
- Able to complete work to a consistently high standard.
- Familiar with safe working practices and maintenance procedures.
- Fully equipped with their own basic tools.
- Able to complete accurate job sheets and maintenance reports.
- A driving licence.
Relevant qualifications and technical experience are advantageous, including:
- NVQ / City \& Guilds in Plumbing or a related trade.
- Relevant maintenance engineering qualifications.
- Gas Safe registration/qualifications, where applicable to the work being undertaken.
- Experience with heating and hot water systems.
- Electrical fault\-finding experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and components would be advantageous.
- Welding or fabrication experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Regular Monday–Friday work.
- 8\-hour working days.
- Consistent workload.
- Work primarily across Tower Hamlets and surrounding areas.
- Competitive day rate / hourly rate.
- Self\-employed position initially.
