Maintenance Engineer
Your new company
We are looking for a practical, hands-on, multi-skilled Engineer to join a busy manufacturing mill. This is a varied role working across mechanical and electrical maintenance, supporting the safe and efficient running of production, intake, milling, mixing, pelleting, conveying and packing equipment.The successful candidate will be physically fit, comfortable working in a mill environment and willing to be hands-on with breakdowns, planned maintenance, cleaning down, inspections and continuous improvement activity. The role will suit an engineer who enjoys variety, can work safely at a pace and takes pride in keeping the plant and equipment running reliably. This is a shift-based role, working on 12-hour shifts (6am to 6pm or 10am to 10pm) on a panama style shift pattern.
Your new role
As a maintenance engineer, your duties will include:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across the mill and associated plant.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime and support production targets.
- Maintain and repair conveyors, elevators, mixers, grinders, presses, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, pneumatic systems and other mill equipment.
- Support breakdown response across production, intake, storage and packing areas.
- Complete inspections, lubrication, adjustments and routine servicing to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
- Work closely with production and mill teams to identify issues, prioritise repairs and communicate progress clearly.
- Record maintenance activity, parts used and any follow-up actions accurately on the maintenance system or site records.
- Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, safety, quality and efficiency.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures, risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in workshops, plant rooms and production areas.
- Recognised engineering qualification, apprenticeship or time-served background in mechanical, electrical or multi-skilled engineering.
- NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification would be desirable.
- Electrical qualifications, 18th Edition, welding/fabrication, forklift, MEWP, confined space or IOSH training would be advantageous but are not essential.
A competitive starting salary of £52225, enhanced overtime rates, company sick pay scheme, enhanced pension.
