The role

As an Engineer in our Secure Cloud team, you’ll provide advanced technical support for our public sector customers across dedicated and private Secure Cloud environments, with a particular focus on Linux infrastructure.

You’ll act as the senior escalation point for complex Linux incidents, taking ownership of issues through to resolution and helping maintain secure, stable and reliable customer environments. Alongside hands\-on troubleshooting, you’ll improve documentation, support automation and process improvements, and share your Linux knowledge with engineers across the wider support function.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Linux engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across cloud and virtualised environments, and helping others develop their technical capability.

What will I be doing?

  • Acting as the 3rd line Linux escalation point, troubleshooting and resolving complex incidents across customer environments.

  • Administering, maintaining and optimising Linux servers across RHEL, AlmaLinux, Ubuntu and other enterprise distributions.

  • Supporting dedicated and private cloud platforms, including VMware, high availability, disaster recovery and load\-balancing technologies such as NGINX and HAProxy.

  • Troubleshooting infrastructure and connectivity issues across Linux services, networking, DNS, SSL certificates and TCP/IP.

  • Driving service improvements through automation, monitoring, vulnerability remediation, documentation and mentoring of other engineers.
What will I bring to the role?

You'll bring strong, hands\-on Linux administration experience and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within customer\-facing production environments.

You'll also have:

  • Advanced Linux administration skills across RHEL, AlmaLinux, Ubuntu or similar enterprise distributions, with experience supporting business\-critical environments.

  • Strong troubleshooting experience covering Linux services, permissions, logs, networking, DNS, TCP/IP and security\-related issues.

  • Experience providing 3rd line support and working with virtualised platforms, ideally including VMware clustered environments, high availability and disaster recovery.

  • Knowledge of load\-balancing, monitoring and observability tools, with a proactive approach to performance, availability and problem management.

  • Excellent communication and technical leadership skills, with experience mentoring colleagues and working directly with customers during high\-priority incidents.

  • An understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, scripting/automation and security frameworks such as PCI DSS and ISO 27001\.
