Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and highly organised Legal Accounts Assistant to become part of a busy and professional legal environment. This position plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the firm, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and in line with regulatory standards.

Key Duties

Accounts Administration

  • Maintain accurate financial records across both client and business accounts.

  • Process incoming and outgoing client funds efficiently.

  • Monitor account activity and investigate any inconsistencies where required.

  • Ensure all accounting procedures adhere to current legal finance regulations.

Payment Processing
  • Manage electronic payments, bank transfers, and cheque transactions.

  • Carry out daily banking tasks and allocate receipts accordingly.

  • Handle online banking activities including BACS and CHAPS payments.

  • Transfer costs from client accounts to office accounts in line with billing procedures.

Reconciliations & Financial Support
  • Complete regular reconciliations for client and office bank accounts.

  • Support month-end and year-end accounting activities.

  • Prepare financial information and reports for senior management when needed.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate financial controls across the department.

Billing & Expenses
  • Produce invoices and legal billing documentation.

  • Process supplier payments, disbursements, and operational expenses.

  • Ensure all payments are assigned correctly to the relevant files and clients.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with legal accounting policies and financial regulations.

  • Prepare documentation required for internal reviews and external audits.

  • Support compliance monitoring and reporting activities.

Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience within a legal finance or legal cashiering function.

  • Understanding of client account management and legal accounts procedures.

  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with legal accounting platforms and finance systems.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general IT proficiency.

  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.

  • Capable of working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
