Women’s Secure Outreach Service

Lead Nurse 8B

Hours 37\.5

Monday – Friday 9\-5

Work base negotiable Kent/Surrey/Sussex. Some travel required.

Following the success of an innovative pilot, we are excited to offer this permanent Lead Nurse (Band 8B) role within the Women’s Outreach Service. This is a system\-wide leadership role within a cross\-county service funded by the KSS Secure Provider Collaborative, working across PICU, prison healthcare and community pathways to improve outcomes for women and promote care in the least restrictive environment.

In this role, you will ensure women receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time—reducing unnecessary secure admissions and championing trauma\-informed approaches.

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010\).

You will provide expert clinical leadership across forensic pathways, supporting women in PICU and prison healthcare settings to avoid unnecessary admission to secure services. This includes leading case formulation, pathway planning and complex case reviews to support safe, effective care in less restrictive environments.

You will work with the proximal support network in a preventative model, strengthening relationships, building staff confidence and improving patient journeys. The role also involves delivering training, supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary teams, contributing to workforce development and consistency of care.

In addition, you will support service development, pathway redesign and system\-wide improvement, alongside contributing to audit, research and evaluation activity to strengthen evidence\-based practice.

We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all\-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.

Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.

Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It’s why we’re passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident.

Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that’s working well together.

We are serious about diversity and inclusion, and we are working hard to build this into our DNA. We warmly welcome applications for any of our roles from people from diverse backgrounds, and we are proactively encouraging applications from under\-represented communities for our more senior roles, like this one.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse with a strong background in forensic mental health, including work with women in secure or offender health settings. You will demonstrate advanced clinical expertise, leadership and the ability to influence change across organisations.

You will be confident working in complex systems, with strong multi\-agency working and decision\-making skills, and a clear commitment to improving outcomes for women.

This is a permanent Band 8B leadership role offering the opportunity to work across prisons, PICU and community services, influencing care at a regional and provider collaborative level. You will play a key part in shaping an innovative and growing service that is making a meaningful difference.
