Job summary
We are recruiting for a Lead Developer (Appian) to join our Digital Change team. You will act as the senior technical authority, setting engineering standards and ensuring secure, high‑quality, and maintainable delivery.
In this role you will do:
- Lead technical direction and improve ways of working
- Apply deep Appian expertise and broad technical skills
- Recommend the right technologies and approaches
- Support and contribute to the wider developer community
- Mentor and coach developers across the team
- Drive best practice and promote knowledge sharing

- Effective at communicating verbally and in writing. Adept at tailoring message to explain technical matters clearly for non\-technical audiences. (Essential)
- Experience of the integration of Appian Cloud with non\-Appian services. (Desirable)
- Experience of leading the successful design, development and deployment of at least one Appian\-based project in a large, complex, high\-profile organisation. (Essential)

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.Application and shortlisting
The selection panel will assess your application/personal statement explaining how you meet the essential and, where applicable, desirable criteria outlined in the job description and person specification.
You will also be asked to provide information within the Employer/Activity History section of the application form. This information is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV setting out your career history (this may be used in the sifting process).

Assessment and Interview
Candidates who pass the benchmark at the shortlisting stage will be invited to an assessment and interview where you will be assessed against a combination of the the Civil Service behaviours and the technical/experience skills set out in section 3 of the job specification.
Assessment and interviews will be held during the week commencing 29 June 2026 at 23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham.
