Laboratory Support Technician

Are you passionate about supporting the next generation of healthcare scientists in a laboratory setting?

The University of Chester is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Laboratory Support Technician to join the Division of Medical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting laboratory teaching and research across a growing portfolio of programmes. Based at Exton Park Campus, you will help ensure our laboratories operate safely, efficiently and to the highest professional standards.

About the role

As a Laboratory Support Technician, you will work closely with academic and technical colleagues to support practical teaching, maintain specialist laboratory equipment, manage inventories and assist with the day\-to\-day operation of our laboratory facilities. You will contribute to an outstanding student experience by helping to deliver high\-quality practical learning opportunities while supporting research activities across the Division.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining laboratory health and safety standards

  • Facilitating taught practical classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level

  • Performing routine maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment

  • Completing inventories and audits of consumables, chemicals and equipment

  • Provide administrative support, including procurement and laboratory bookings

  • Support student recruitment activities including Open Days and Outreach

About you

You will hold an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline and have practical experience of core laboratory techniques across areas such as biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, immunology, haematology and histopathology.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of laboratory health and safety practices

  • Strong organisational and problem\-solving skills

  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to support learners with varying levels of experience

  • A proactive and collaborative approach to work

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience of laboratory research environments, technical support, training delivery, HTA compliance or health and safety qualifications would be advantageous.
